The EOS 450D with 18-55 IS lens out performs my 20D with a 17-85 IS Lens by a good margin. Amazing images for this price range and it is competitive with those from several other more expensive cameras. The images are sharp and color is excellent. The 14 bit sensor really does a good job here. Although some testers find no significant advantage compared to a 12 bit sensor I see improvements in color reproduction. The camera is light a good match for the 18-55 IS Lens. AF is fast and accurate. The 18-55 IS Lens is provides better images than my 17-85 IS and the 18-55 is all I need for most applications. The required SD and SDHD cards are small and inexpensive. Battery life is good if you do not use the live view feature. The raw processing software provided with the camera is very good. I‘ve been using the RAW + Jpeg setting and find the Raw images have quality and processing advantages over the Jpegs. However, most photographers will find acceptable images in most of the Jpegs. I like the small size and ordinary look of the EOS 450D. When I shot photos I prefer not to attract attention. This lens / camera combination offers a lot of bang for the buck. For 95% of the photographers it will meet and exceed their requirements. I would go so far to say this camera will meet the requirements of some professionals if their need for speed is no more than 3.5 frames a second.
Problems:
Complex Canon Image processing software.
