Please note the blurry picture issue for many samples of this camera before considering the many positives for this camera.

On the positive side, this model sports a nice 3" LCD on the back (if you can do without a viewfinder) and a fast image processor with minimal shutter button delay. The video mode is 30fps at VGA quality, and it seems nice except for the fact that its in MOV and not AVI format. There are specialty picture scenarios such as portrait, indoor, and even firecracker! I've not tested these though. There are a few manual controls, but not focusing. Manual White Balance is one of the manual controls, so that is nice.

Problems:

Is anyone else getting blurry pictures from their SD880IS? I got 2 of these: one from me and the other as a gift for my Dad. Mine had blurry shots either completely or partially for everything but Macro mode. Seeing that this is a known issue, I tore into my dad's camera to see whether his is defective too. His appears to be OK, thankfully. This is horrible since this camera gets mostly stellar reviews everywhere!! Worse of all, Newegg is only giving replacements and not refunds on this camera.

Google for 'blurry' and 'sd880is' and you'll see the many disappointed users out there like myself.

Even in my Dad's camera, I find that picture quality is pretty average. The grain seems to have a splotchy appearance that I don't find appealing. This is even with the Superfine stuff turned on, of course.

So, folks, please beware particularly if you come from the SLR world as I do... And be very careful to get a good RMA policy beforehand!!
