I've had a S50 and a S70 in the past, then a Panasonic LX2 after the S70 was stolen. The Canons (for me at least) seemed to compose pictures in difficult situations (especially when using flash) better than other digital cameras I've had. I've thought their 'picture engine' did a better job of bringing out the subject I wanted to capture. I got a G10 after some poor shots over Christmas with the LX2. I'm impressed and the G10 confirms my impression that the Canon does a better job of composing a picture; information the analytical 'roadtest' data doesn't seem quite to provide.
Problems:
Non really, except the nice 'old fashioned' leather cover/case seems impractical and fumbly when it comes to accessing the memory card and battery and I worry about its resistance to rain. I've gone back to using a simple robust waterproof Lowepro soft case.
