At first I was dissapointed by the image quality of this camera. It had unacceptable noise at ISO 250 and higher. The noise manifested as fungus like white stripes on the image. Even at clear daylight images you could see this noise, while much cheaper camera's could make far better images. The sharpness of the images is very good. Canon does do some real good image processing.

After 4 months however the lense sliding system broke and I sent it in for repair (That's why I only give a 3 star contruction. The camera feels solid though and buttons handle well). Canon send me a new model back, since a dead pixel I had was no longer there. The new camera had much better image quality and indoor images of faces at ISO 250 looked really good (This is on par (or better) with the predecessor SD870 which I used for work)

Very easy to use and starts fast. night shooting with auto mode can delay one second. It will not give you full manual control over shutter-time, diafragma and focus.

No HD filming, but the 640x480-H2.64 movies are very sharp.

I was at first apparently unlucky with having a bad sensor chip, but if you get a good chip, you do get that good canon quality, which does not come as the cheapest.

Problems:

If you are unlucky you get a noisy sensor chip.
