For:
Excellent image quality.
Great build - looks good and feels guide - a likeable camera to use.
Reasonably quick and responsive as digital compacts go.
Image noise is not the problem that some reviewers would have you believe.
Overall I would highly recommend the camera as a DSLR alternative for certain shooting situations.
Problems:
Against:
Already had a few dust spots on a few images (about 3 images out of 700). Not many but camera may need to go back to Canon for a clean at some point.
Optical viewfinder has a budget feel to it - you can see the lens barrel through it which is something unique and disconcerting!
Three layer concentric adjustment wheel, rocker and select button on the back of the camera is fiddly to use.
Manual comes on a CD as a pdf file. Not easy to read in a chair with a mug of coffee.
Not using my Nikon D3 or D300 much at the moment!
