If ever a camera deserves full marks, this is it.

Simply put, you can't fault it, for anything. Sure, high ISO (800 and above) are
slightly noiser than the Canons and Nikons. Use RAW and you can fix it. Sure, the
JPGs are a tad soft. Use RAW and you don't have a problem. Since Pentax - unlike
the market leaders - have decided to provide us, the users, with the option of
choosing DNG RAW format, you can open those files right now. No need to use
proprietary software or wait for an update to your converter of choice. Heck, the
camera deserves full marks just for that.

But there's so much more. There's the build quality, which simply reeks of quality.
This camera is better assembled than just about anything out there. You have to
move up to far more expensive offerings from the competition to get the same
feeling (that of holding a very small tank in your hands). There's the size itself. The
camera is small and easy to bring along, yet not flimsy. There's the abundance of
custom settings and controls, allowing just about everyone, no matter how weird
their taste might be, to set up the camera to their liking. There's the basically
perfect button and lever layout, providing instantly intuitive control over the camera
in every possible situation. There's the viewfinder, second to none in the APS-C
crowd. There's the monitor, brilliant, contrasty and very very sharp.

Finally, Pentax has provided us with a truly worthy companion to the brilliant DA
Ltd lenses. At the start of 2009, I predicted they'd be the first ones to go out of
business due to the direction. If anything, they've made me pray that won't
happen. And to be honest, I think they've done far more. They've sent a signal that
no matter what happens, they want us to know that they're more than capable of
matching anything the big name brands might throw their way.

This camera is outstanding, in every single way.

Problems:

That would be the lack of a weatherproofed 10-17 fisheye zoom to go along with it...
