I bought this camera as an upgrade to my SX100 IS, on the assumption that two versions later, ie 8MP up to 10 MP, better processor, features etc I would get an up to date version of my old camera. The spec published on this site said that the SX120 can take JPEGS in Normal, Fine and Super-Fine. Well, the SX100 can , but the SX120 only has Normal and Fine. As a consequence the JPEGS on large/fine are about half the size of the 8MP super-fine ones on the old model. They simply aren't as good. You wouldn't notice this unless you compared the two models. Also, the battery life is minimal. About half that of the previous model. The camera itself is smaller and more angular, and the whole thing has been 'de-specced' presumably to make it competitive at the price-point where it sits in the market. It also has that annoying tendency on auto to know what it wants to do better than you do. It takes over to an extent that is too intrusive. Not a bad camera overall, and the results are fine. Just not as good as previous models in the series and too many compromises getting in the way of quality.

Problems:

No 'super-fine' option available.
Battery life the worst I have come across.
