I am one of those people who are always wanting to upgrade to the newest and
best. I was happy to find out that the Best Buy about an hour away from me had 4
of these S90s. So I went and bought one. I really wanted to love this camera, but
unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Please keep in mind that I am not trying to hurt
anyone's feelings - these are just MY feelings about this camera
First thing I noticed was that it looked kind of cheap. Secondly, it felt rather cheap.
I don't know if it was because it was so light or what. It had a very plastic feeling to
it. The pictures that I shot were nice - but nothing spectacular that would warrant
keeping it over my SD990. Blown up to 100% there was still noise similar to that of
my SD990, although the corners were much sharper on the S90. I also liked the
wide angle lens of the S90 and the RAW capabilities. RAW was one thing I really
wanted and thanks to CHDK being installed on my SD990 I have it. I didn't care for
the pop-up flash at all - something I totally wasn't used to and a good way for me
to end up damaging the flash by putting my fingers there! Also, I would have
preferred the shutter and the mode dial to have swapped places...my finger kept
wanting to press the mode dial!
Needless to say, I returned the S90 to Best Buy and have opted to stay with my
SD990 and G10 (for wide angle when the need arises). Just my two cents worth
and nothing more.
PROS:
f/2.0 Wide angle lens
RAW
Low light shooting
Lower MPs
Control Ring
3" screen
CONS:
Cheep plastic look and feel
Was expecting a bit more
Problems:
I understand I am in the minority here. But these are just my opinions.
