I bought my SX1IS in December 2008, one year ago….I was waiting for a successor of my SX2S which gave me good results…
I am globally speaking quite happy about the SX1IS. Picture quality is good, a little bit noisy (if compared to equivalent cameras) above 400 ISO and softened between ISO 100 and ISO 400 but we enjoy watching the pictures on a quite big plasma…so why always looking for details you do not see apart if you zoom…and zoom….on the picture?
Video is amazing! You are just impressed about quality of sound and image, but, you need to connect the Camera with HDMI !
My perfect Camera would be (If Canon goes for a SX2IS, they already replaced the SX10 by the 20….) the same as SX1IS with a little bit less noisy CMOS sensor and wit a manual zoom. Manual zoom will really make a difference when you hesitate between a SLR and BRIDGE…
The SX1IS is a good Camera. If you are looking for nice (really nice) video, then it is a really good product.
Problems:
Lens cap you can loose.
The rotating wheel is not always easy to use.
Zooming is a little bit noisy (you can hear it sometimes on video, but other watchers do not notice it…I am perhaps too strict)
