Nice lil Camera with great and handy features!
Has full Auto mode or you can use it full Manual mode.
The 20X zoom (28-560mm) is spectacular especially for such a small camera. F2.8-5.7 is real bad either.
The USM is fast and quiet....a real plus for Wildlife shots.
Image Stabilizer works great and is truly needed for such a zoom.
Macro mode is really amazing and fun to use.
The rear LCD is really handy for overhead or low level shots.
Rotates any direction you want.
Hot-shoe is nice for a variety of Canon Speedlite flashes.
Video is amazing as well as the sound that goes with it.
Battery life is excellent and having AA is handy as you can get them anywhere. NiMH work best recommend Energizer E2 rechargeable batteries. Energizer has a 15min charger....now that's FAST....works for Home or Car.
BOTTOM LINE
While it's not a DSLR....it's about as close as you'll get to one in a small Pro-sumer Camera!!!
If you can't afford $3000+ for DSLR the SX20 is a great alternative.
Problems:
Woulda liked a lil heavier plastic for the body like the G11 or the older Pro-1 had.
Not real great in low light like the G11.
Rotary dial is tricky to use as it's response is sluggish.
No remote feature...woulda liked a wireless remote for a number of situations.
Weak threads for filters...takes 52mm.
Frames per second is pretty slow which is disappointing!
There is some purple fringe with bright subjects like snow...but then there is with almost any digital camera.
Has to do with the sensor and it's processing.
REMEMBER
**There is no such a thing as a perfect Camera**
ALL of them have their faults and when choosing a Camera you hafta decide which faults you can live with.
If Canon would mix the SX20 with the G11 you'd have a NEAR perfect Canon Camera!!
