hello all dp visitors

I am interested in the 602; but I find that the hand grip is too big for me. I find that the 6900 is fit my hand but it is launched more than a year. Pls advise. is there any big difference between these 2 model and how about their image quality

thank a lot

never owned the 6900 but most of the samples i've seen are fantastic, like the 602 i think the 6900 is a "sleeper"camera capable of much more than some people give it credit for, mainly the "pixle counters" in other forums.

There's really no difference in image quality between the two cameras. The 602 has some improvements, most noticeably the ability to use rechargeable AA batteries, dual media and an improved AF. However, these were not enough to make me think of upgrading my 6900.

Hi Willis

I would be happy to swap my 6900 for a 602, if you want it.

Seriously, both are excellent and don't outrun each other much. The 602 has a few improvements but made a minor sacrifice in the color rendering department. (Only noticeable in some conditions; you can read all about it here.)

(BTW, I DO like the bigger size, especially the hand grip.)

Hi

I had the 6900 before the 602.

I feel that it was actually a bit easier to get consistently good quality images out of the 6900 than the 602. Also I too prefer the shape and case construction of the 6900 to the 602. IMHO It felt a little sturdier and of higher quality.

The downsides of the 6900 are that you will probably need a couple of spare NP-80 batteries (I think about 20 UK pounds a pop) and a number of spare Smartmedia cards. (I'd be worried about investing much money in SM cards now that XD is taking hold!) - one or two 128MB SM card and some sort of image bank might be the solution!

The 602 has advantages with it's dual media, vastly improved video and also its diopter adjusment. Also the 602 allows for higher ISO and some enhancements in extreme shutter speeds at both ends of the scale. There is also new Super Macro Mode allowing you to get within 1CM of the subject.

I find that the Auto mode is less forgiving than the 6900 and that to me, "Risk of being flamed here :-( " the pictures from the 602 are not as consistently sharp as those from the 6900. This is not to say that a sharp picture can not be acheived from the 602, far from it, I just find I have to work a little harder to get the results I want. I tend to take more shots of the same subject now and then sift through them to find the best later. That is definitely an advantage of having a slot for the higher capacity Compact Flash cards and also being able to have a standby SM card occupying other slot (I find that I very rarely take the cards out of the camera nowadays). On the upside, one set of 1800Nimh batteries will once properly cycled last for in excess of 3 possibly 4 hours of shooting. The 602 is very cheap at the moment, and possibly represents the best value for money of any digicam out there.

I guess it comes down to personal choice in the end. If you can live without the advantages of the 602, then the 6900 is a fine choice. For me, if it wasn't for the diopter adjustment, and the fact that I clumsily damaged the 6900 by dropping it from a tripod, I'd have stayed with it.

One recommendation - whichever you choose (either being an excellent choice) get an adapter tube and a Multi-Coated UV filter to protect the telescoping lense. Many people here (myself included now) will not operate these cam 's without one. (Some people prefer Skylight 1B over a UV).

Greg

Just a note to say that I use a 4900, which I believe has the same EVF as the 6900, and does not have a diopter adjustment. I use reading glasses for reading all the time and I have absolutely no problem with the EVF. In fact I prefer the EVF to the LCD screen for reviewing photos. I only use the LCD when I want to show someone else the pic - so we can both look together.

Hi Lynn,

I wasn't suggesting that the 6900 couldn't be used with glasses, but thanks for clearing up the ambiguity, I can see how I might have given the wrong impression. I actually prefer not to use my specs due to them being reactolite, I find it really awkward on bright sunny days, to use my glasses for this reason. Sorry for any confusion! I loved my 6900, and was distraught when I dropped it. The diopter adjustment of the 602 is a real bonus for me!

Hi

I have been using a 6900 for about 18 months and find it a very good camera. Looking at the specs of the 602 I would probably go for it however if I now had the choice - particularly re the larger ISO selection and better EVF.

I have the feeling that Fuji are about to come up with their next model in this bracket - probably a genuine 6 mp instead of the Super CCD, which is not really as as great as they would have us believe.
