Fantastic lens, clear, small, light and fast.

It spent a few months researching between 35mm 50mm AF AF-S FX DX f/1.4 f/1.8 - It all started when I decided I needed a "nifty fifty" for my kit. I used to manage a camera store, so I had the advantage of 'demonstrating' (i.e. playing and testing for my customers) several lenses. Now that I own it and have used it under a range of conditions; I know I made the right choice. So small and light, and wide enough (52.5mm, I seem to prefer my wide shots) on my DX camera (currently D80, will be D7000 very soon). Most importantly, the low light performance is fantastic and the clarity - so clear. I just finished a day shooting prototype shoes and bags for a client's rep. to take all over Australia. This lens was an absolute pleasure to shoot with (my 105mm Micro VR would not have been practical). My advice for anyone with a Nikon DX thinking about a nifty prime: this is the one. Keen on the 50mm "nifty fifty"? don't forget that it's 75mm on your DX (you may end up getting both), and will not AF (auto focus) on the entry level Nikons (e.g. D3100 great camera, D5000...). This 35mm also has nice, soft, round, smooth bokeh :)

Problems:

None that I have found yet, and I have been looking. I was concerned before it arrived that I should have gone for a 1.4 option as I prefer natural light as much as possible, but the 1.8 is all I need (found myself shooting at f2.0+ in low light anyway).
