The first thing you notice with this new lens is how light it is compared to its predecessor. 3.2 lbs., no less! Definitely hand holdable for short periods. Wide open it is very sharp as expected, with improved colour and contrast over the MkI. Little sharpness or speed is lost with the 1.4TC TypeIII. The 2.0 TC (Type II) more than acceptable although focus is slower and will hunt a bit when moving to the extremes. Perhaps the Type III improves on that.

Problems:

The lighter weight shortens the eyepiece to gimbal balance point, which takes some getting used to. The older much heavier lens panned more smoothly, but that's the only area where the new lens isn't better.
