The Plastic Fantastic!
So, this lens is a "budget" prime, but can I make one thing clear, the performance is far from budget!
Sharpness - 10/10. There is nothing wrong with its performance, and it harks back to the old mighty Takumars with its rendition.
Bokeh - 9/10. Get it right is the bokeh is creamy creamy creamy. However if you do shots with lights in the background, the resultant effect is "egg Shaped". This is not a problem really, as the rest of the blur is smooth.
Size - 10/10. Typical Pentax prime, small and neat, light too.
Contrast - 10/10. Nothing wrong with it at all, contrast is spot on.
Build - 8/10. Dropped a couple of points here, due to the plastic bayonet. However, it is solid. albeit plastic body and mount that it can take some pounding. In fact I accidentaly dropped it onto some tarmac and it bounced. Did it cause any problems? Nothing. Did some test shots and it is fine. The lens is light enough for the plastic bayonet to not be an issue.
Features - 9/10. It has a 49mm thread, so those expensive polorisers you got for the 50mm, Limiteds and old takumars, fit beautifully. Downside is no MF clutch, but what do expect from a cheap lens?
Sum up. A lens that All Pentaxians should have. Budget priced, but exceptional performance. If you can't afford the 31mm Limited, then get this, If you can afford, or indeed have the 31mm Limited, still get this lens.
It is a Plastic Fantastic!
None what so ever.
