My UZI is about 6 months old and has 5K or so pictures logged.

Last month on vacation i was taking tons of shots. Well one day all of a sudden it wouldn't focus at all. I tried manual and auto but everything was a blur and I couldn't hear anything going on inside the lens.

I was freakin out and missed a good shot actually.

I powered down and back on with no luck. I cleaned the lens to see if a it was focusing on a smudge or something on the lens...no luck.

I finally removed the batteries for 10 minutes and when i put them back everything was fine.

Anyone have a similiar experience? I didn't by the extended warrenty but am not considering it before my year is up.

I have had this happen to me when I have accidently touched the macro button. This is what probabbly happened in your case.

I've had the UZI lose the ability to focus also. It didn't even try to focus. On both occassions, the humidity was very near 100%. I just don't attempt to use it in such conditions anymore. My wife has a Fuji digital camera and it did the same thing in very humid conditions.

The glass on my EVF moves every so often, and I futz around before remembering to just push it back into place with my finger.

Powering off then on should clear the macro setting since I have it on auto reset.

I had a problem similar to this...

the lens actually wonuldn't zoom... it was in focus when I zoomed to where the lens actually was, but every other zoom setting was out of focus... when i looked in the lens while zooming, nothing was moving, like it does when working properly.

it happens occasionally, but usually shutting it off and on resolves it for me.

I had ones the camera friezed , i guess that one hard shake could make the batteries move and loose contact... Or by pressing the buttons very fast . By opening the batteries cover for few seconds it comes to life again , strong and healthy . I own the camera 9 months , and it happen just onces .

That is what happened to my first UZi..it is on its way in for repair.. been waiting for the last possible firmware upgrade.

It is a known issue with firmware before 77....Mine would suddenly do it no matter what batteries I used and no matter what card.

Olympus said it is likely a problem with the motherboard and the firmware.

Return it before your warranty is up.

Yes, I had this happen to mine when I was playing around with software that controls the camera from your computer. Wouldn't focus, wouldn't turn off, just locked up. (Maybe Bill Gates had a hand in the uzi design). I thought, uh oh SDS! But I just removed and reinstalled the batteries and everything has been fine since.
