Have played with but don't own, yet, but definitely on my wish list when I get the FX camera soon... Nice lens, can produce greate images, love primes, and love this length for portraits. A non-Nikon alternative would be the Tamron 90mm SP (used to use one years ago and thought it was great) but it is slower both in light (f2.8) and - reportedly - focusing (although the newer version with the inbuilt motor is likely to be better). Subjectively, I will say that I think that the bokeh from the Tamron is better than the Nikon, plus it has the added advantage of being a 1:1 macro lens.

The thing that has made me want to put in a review - even though I don't actually own the glass - is to mention that the 10 year lifespan of Nikon lenses mentioned as a concern in one of the reviews is a myth. This was based on people misunderstanding (accidentally or otherwise) the '10' symbol surrounded by two arrows printed on lenses. To quote Nikon "This symbol indicates that the lens meets Chinese regulations regarding the use of environmentally friendly material used in the construction of the lens or camera. In China all items that meet these legations must display the above symbol. Any items that do not meet the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations can no longer be imported into Europe so no similar logo is required for Europe."
