I just read the review by DPReview on the FZ200 and for the first time in a very long time I find myself in almost total agreement with them. I have now had the FZ200 for about a month and around 400 images and these are the pluses and minuses I have found
1. The F2.8 lens is fantastic and the zoom range is more than adequate. I will be taking it with me to Burma in 5 days along with my Sony NEX 6 and the 16-50 lens.
2. Battery life while great is depletes very fast in cold weather, really fast.
3. The customizable features are about as good as I had with my dSLR cameras like the Nikon D90 and the Pentax K10. I set the Fn1 to bracketing, F2 to AEL and F3 to flash compensation. Having 4 custom setting (C1 and C2 with 3 variations) allows me to shoot the way I want when I want to.
4. Quick to grab focus even at extended zoom. It does slow slightly as you zoom out to 500-600mm but barely noticeable.
5. Image quality almost matches my Sony NEX 6 at ISO values up to 800. I am a nut about sharpness and lack of noise and IF focus is right on and my hand steady, sharpness is there. Noise is there but not intrusive until you start to push the ISO. Even then it is OK up to ISO 1600 which is why I have my NEX 6 with me as well, there I can go to 6400 if necessary.
6. Camera is extremely fast working, far faster than my NEX 6 or any other camera I have used. Lag time is almost non-existent. Not much focus hunting even at 500-600mm zoom.
7. The EVF is very good, responds well to camera or subject movements.
8. I loaded the manual on boh my Kindle HD fire and my iPad I find this a much better way to have a manual since both those devices are always with me while traveling.
Problems:
1. The only problem I am having and still have not resolved is my accidental pushing the WB (white balance) button due to the way I grip the camera. I wish I could disable that button but so far I have not found a way to do so.
2. The body does flex more than I like for a camera in this class but I don't find that objectionable.
3. The lack of an eye sensor, like that on my NEX 6,takes some getting use to but I am getting there.
