(I would search the forum for entries about the X10, except that DPReview's search brings up (seemingly) everything BUT what i am searching for. in this case, X10 retrieves entries about the X100, anything starting with X, etc etc.)

I am thinking about purchasing a high quality fixed lens camera with a range around 28-100, and considering the X10 along with the Canon S110, the Sony RX100, the Panasonic LX-7, etc. I know this represents quite a wide range of cost also. The winners seem to be the X10 and the RX100. The RX100 is supposed to have higher image quality, but cannot match the f2.8 aperture of the X10 at the top of its focal length range. And the X10 does have a viewfinder, though a limited one. The controls and the EXR features of the X10 are attractive also.

So- how has this all panned out in practice? Can you tell me or refer me to good threads on this forum that I have been unable to find?

I only have good things to say about this camera. There are a few quirks but I love the manual controls. the dynamic range is amazing and although there is a flash I never use it even at night. The lens is very fast and the manual zoom is great.

I purchased my camera when it was first released and it did suffer from the infamous orb issue. My camera is currently having the sensor replaced by Fuji. The newer X10 s have the newer updated sensor.

I bought this camera to replace my Canon 40D and to be honest this camera blows the Canon away and I'm constantly amazed at how great the images are. There are so many features in this camera that I quite often find myself laughing in amazement. I recently purchased Alexander White's Guide to the Fujifilm X10. It is very helpful to learn all the ins and outs.

You might also consider the new X20 which seems to be a follow up. If you have any more specific quests please ask.

I love this camera!

You can secretly use the X10 on a dark auditorium by switching OFF the LCD and using just the optical viewfinder to take photos! Nobody notices you have a camera because the LCD doesn't light up!

The other smallest cameraI have that can also do this is my Canon IXUS 100 IS.

Dunno how often I wrote this, but the X10 has been my main camera for quite a while now. It's more than good enough in terms of IQ, DR, colors, AF speed, FL range, ... for ~90-95% of what I shoot (semi-professional = stuff that pays my bills), the results keep surprising me on a daily basis and it's a true joy to handle and shoot. The major drawbacks for me are the lack of proper RAW support for 12MP files and of course the typical noise (loss of details) at higher ISO (esp.1600 and up) due to the smallish sensor. Compared to most other compact cams I've tried or 135 film it still delivers acceptable results at ISO 1600, just don't expect any miracles. Other than that it's a wonderful performer, my copy is built like the proverbial tank and I love it to bits like no other cam I've owned before. Hope that helps :)

I used a Fuji X10 for more than one year (I have moved to a Fuji X-E1 recently).

Here is my short analysis of the Fuji X10: beautiful images, good (no miracles though) image quality up to ISO 1600, very nice handling, the mechanical zoom feels "right" (coming from a DSLR), build quality that does not make you feel afraid to break the camera. AF speed is decent - most of the missed shots were my responsibility. White orbs are a nuisance, but I encountered them only rarely.

All in all - I really loved the Fuji X10.

I want to say something else: this is the first camera I ever felt sorry to sell. While not perfect, the Fuji X10 really made shooting fun again for me.

I wrote a long(er) review of the Fuji X10 - with quirks and whatnot - and you can read it here http://andreinicoara.com/my-fuji-x10-review-perfect-travel-camera/

The Sony RX100 looks great spec-wise, but when I tried it in a shop I didn't like it at all.

Brian, thanks for the info on Iridiant Developer but I'm a hopeless windozer. Anyway, I'll pass it on to a fellow X10 shooter and Mac user.

Cheers, Ken ...
