I've caught myself in a bit of dilemma. Between the two lenses there is no doubt I would eventually buy both. However, I don't know which focal length would give more use to me.
So for those of you users, which have you found yourselves more fond of? If you haven't realized yet, this would be near the comparison of a 35mm or 14 - 24mm for you FX-ers. Im on a D7000. Which should I purchase first? I'm very open to some alternatives. Thank you for your input

I have found the 24mm f/2.8 to be very disappointing on DX (I have a D300). It has to be stopped down considerably to get sharpness across the field, so it's really not as good as a kit zoom.

I don't have the Tokina but it is well-liked in this forum.

These are two very different lenses. 11-16/2.8 is ultrawide lens. 24mm is just a mildly wide lens on DX.

First decide if you want to take ultra-wide pictures or not...

I have the 24mm with DX. It is plenty wide enough for me. I remember back when I had film with a 28 prime and a 50 prime, I didn't use the 28 nearly as much as the 50.

I have a 24F2.8 AF-D, bought new at B&H in about 2003. It's simply not a very good lens. Not on DX or FX, when compared to other lenses.

Some test shots here, on D700.

I think my 12-24F4 (Nkon) is better at 24, and my 24-70F2.8. There is no doubt my 14-24F2.8 is better.

I have a 24/2.8 AIs and I love it on my d200. It has nice colors and mine is plenty sharp (although many people report softness). I generally shoot at f/5.6 with it.

My favorite lens in film was 35/1.4 -- it was really soft wide open, but it was still great. The 24 is a hair wider than 35 was, so I like it.

But I think I'm going to go for a Sigma 10-20 next.
