Thought of supplementing my kit with the V1, especially for video, the intervalometer and adapted tele use for an African safari coming up later in the year. These are all things my main kit lacks (Fujifilm X mount). The recent year-end price cuts were super, super attractive and so my index finger hovered over the Buy button. Wait until the new year, I thought... without noticing that these were rebates that expired.

Fail.

Am I alone in this folly? Anyone think that the great prices (particularly the ultra kit that B&H had and which is now double the price) will return? Any shimmers of light on the horizon?

the used market will still likely reflect these great prices, at least for a time. there were a lot of people who bought these kits in order to part out at least some of the pieces. i bet you can still get a mint used one for a price basically where the new ones were last year...but i doubt the blowout will come back again as i'm sure nikon got rid of whatever inventory they wanted to. those prices were ridiculously cheap for what is a pretty darn good camera...not perfect, but pretty good.
