Check the user guide/manual...

http://www.fujifilm.com/support/dig...df/index/s/finepix_s4500_series_manual_01.pdf

If you look at page 123: 'Specifications - Shutter Speed' - there doesn't appear to be any 'B' (bulb) or 'T' (time) exposure option.

The best option for you is to use either 'S' or 'M' exposure modes, in which case you can select a shutter-exposure time of up to 8 seconds maximum (you could also use 'A' or 'P' mode, with less direct control of the shutter speed).

[Tip: Presumably you'll be using a tripod - so be sure to also use the '2 second self-timer' to minimise any vibration from pressing the shutter release.]

Forget about using scene modes. Since the S4200 has Fuji's usual PASM shooting modes, just put the top dial on S (shutter priority) or M (manual mode) and you'll be able to set the shutter speed to the longest duration that the S4200 allows. Some of Fuji's cameras don't allow particularly long shutter speeds, so you may need to use manual mode, which usually allows shutter speeds as long as 30 seconds. One warning though. I don't know if Fuji does this with the S4200 or not, but Fuji's cameras often link the ISO to the shutter speed, lowering the ISO as the shutter speed is made slower, which completely defeats the purpose of trying to shoot in low light. As the S4200 only shoots JPEGs, this could be a pretty severe restriction if the light is too dark.

This is what I see now in my s4200. The F stop options change as I change my ISO...It is not really manual...I guess it is the old story - pay more and get more options. This camera cost just as much as my old Pentax, which I could set any way I wanted, but of course, now I don't have to buy film and pay developer fees.
