The little bird is a mockingbird, and as they are pretty antagonistic birds he seemed to enjoy making the eagle feel uncomfortable I actually did a series of about five shots and the mocking bird started out at the far end of the limb, and proceeded to hop down closer and closer to the eagle until he was right behind her.
I suppose, as long as these eagles are well fed with fish they don't much care about other potential food sources -- I have actually seen squirrels taunting these eagles in the past -- now that is some fool-hearty behavior!
These eagles have been consistently returning to this same spot now for about 8 years. I know that sooner or later they will have to move to some spot that is much less accessible -- which will be a sad day for me
Right now they are nest right on the bank of the Llano River in a large pecan tree about 75-80 yards off Highway 29 on some private land. It's really a great deal for viewing since the land is fenced, no one can try to get too close and spook them.
They certainly don't seem to mind the attention they get since all the people and vehicles remain at a safe distance.
Love kingfishers, a very colourful bird. The YBD in the foreground is very sharp! I find I like your bird images a lot, even when you don't, because of the care you take with your compositions, always well thought out.
