Just picked up a mint condition pre-owned for $200. Took some test shots and knew I had to walk away with it...took a few more pics with it today (I took a brick wall test which is pretty boring but shows that I have a pretty darn good copy!...here are some other shots I took that aren't brick walls).

Took this when driving home with my new purchase out the window. In the dark window I can read a barcode and see reflection of my car as well as electric usage meters on original raw 100%

AF working nicely, I think faster than my 55-250 + Rebels

Grungy palms, fingernails, and just got finished eating...really sharp wide open at 300mm IMO

At 300mm f5.6 on FF I think the DOF is still crazy thin...I'm utterly amazed there are bodies/lenses that can do 300mm f2.8 accurately...but of course the price quadruples for this! Even at f5.6 the deciding factor on IQ is in nailing focus!

I've gotten the last piece of the puzzle for my FF gear...I kept APS-C Rebel around for the 55-250 but IMO the 70-300 on my 5DMKII blows it away for slightly more bulk/weight. But I think I'll be sticking with FF gear + MFT gear even though the Rebel is ergonomically great...I just hate having to pick between my FF gear and APS-C when I go out. I also think so many new and cheap affordable EF lenses lately just shine on FF and are just rather meh on APS-C (i.e. 40mm f2.8 pancake, this 70-300 IS, etc). I also just picked up a Samyang/Rokinon 14mm f2.8 WA for cheap and its utterly amazing...but also the limiting factor there is the sheer difficulty in composition! Really so many affordable cheap EF mount lenses IMO just shine on FF when the belief seems to be that you shouldn't bother with FF unless you want to carry the heaviest and most expensive of lenses.

....nice shots......I was surprised when I compared it to my 70-200f/4IS, both set at 200mm/5.6, ..... I couldn't find much if any difference in IQ, perhaps not as much contrast but just as sharp......yes, it's quite a bargain and IMO a better deal than the 55-250IS for it's build and slightly longer reach.

Just resized but the 100% crops are good IMO even after comparing to primes, etc.

Here is a 100% crop of my first picture...I think any lack of sharpness has more to do with me shooting from the driver's seat in a really quick shot than anything else.

Lettering is faint but discernable!

Yes I've always thought the build sucked based on photos where it looks so plasticky but its actually quite decent in person as well. Definitely a big step up in build over the 55-250. I still think the 55-250 is a very good choice for APS-C however, but obviously 70-300 IS for FF is even better.
