Hi

I took some high iso photos this weekend in a dark museum. I had to use 1600 asa, handheld, wide-open and still pretty long shuttertime.

The result is very impressive, below 2 examples;

ASA 1600
lens:18-25
matrix
ev -0.5
wb:auto (first one) incandescent light (second one)
contrast:soft
1/30s (first) 1/15s (second)
4.8 aperture

I am impressed because I didn't think that the hig iso settings really were usable.. (used to have a E10.. the 320 iso was terrible) but now I know. The 800 asa is even more noisefree and could be used very often.

btw, look how fine the S2 handles the mixed lightsources in the first shoot with incoming daylight from the windows in the roof mixed with other light sources.

Regards
Johan

excellent results! thank you for posting.

There will be times when you will be in the field without a camera. And, you will see the most glorious sunset or the most beautiful scene that you have ever witnessed. Don't be bitter because you can't record it. Sit down, drink it in, and enjoy it for what it is! DeGriff

Wow, I didn't think that ISO 1600 was that useable, but I'll have to reconsider after seeing these examples. And you didn't use a tripod on these? I don't think I could get results this good handholding at the shutter speeds you used. I'm also impressed that the 18-35 could render this kind of detail wide open.

Hi

yes, handheld! When long shuttertime I fire a lot of photos of each subject in order to get one sharp. Yepp, a bit surprised myself about the sharpness and detaillevel when using the 18-35!

the Nikkor 18-35 may be one of the more under rated lenses...not only is it tack sharp, but it focuses quickly (though not AFS) and is very light in weight

Johan your shot is extraordinary evidence of the flexibility of the S2 when used by an intelligent & sound photographer...thanks for sharing
