Nikon V1 is now #1 selling mirrorless camera on Amazon!

Any camera manufacturer who can't or won't put an integrated viewfinder on a camera will NOT get my money. I refuse to consider Oly for this purpose. I was really hoping that someone who has used the V1 would respond.

20mm f1.7 has an 11mm aperture and 18.5mm f1.8 has a 10mm aperture. That's "roughly" the same DOF control. By that I mean not just DOF (which will be close) but also the amount of fore and background blur. The 18.5mm provides a slightly narrower view which does help compensate a little for the sensor size differences. If you had a 40mm equivalent prime for the Nikon, then the difference would be less similar.

OMD seems to have an EVF? Why are you so absolutistic about this BTW? Is it a sin? I was only used to use an EVF nd have bought one for the EPL5. However, bar strong sunlight, I don't seem to need it really. Those LCDs are getting better an better you know.

Actually there is no difference between those two descriptions. If you scroll down the Amazon page you'll see that Yellow Pentax Thing, which is really not very small.

What *is* wrong with Jonikon's thread title is that the V1 is going for clearance prices now. Basically that goes for the first three-four models/kits in the list [the Olympus is also going at end-of-line prices I think]. If you're in for a bargain that is of course nice. But the first cam going for a more or less normal price is the Nex-6.

Yesterday I checked the Amazon top 100 cameras (of any kind) and unless I missed it,

there was not one mirrorless camera in the list

not even the industry leading Olympus 4/3 and Sony NEX models, let alone any pathetic 10 Mp Nikon with proprietary lens mount.

I still haven't gotten any documentation that [best selling] claim is true. Where's the beef?

Thank you.

You have inserted a caveat of your own choosing, (clearance price vs original price at introduction), into the conversation and then you say my original post is wrong ?

Sheesh!

Maybe I should point out that there are only 3 models of the Nikon 1 cameras, but are 9 different models of NEX cameras, and many below their original offering price and yet only 1 in the top ten.

There is nothing wrong with my post as my statement is correct. There are clearance prices on cameras all the time, but they all don't make it to the top of the sales list!

BTW, the Nikon V1 is still #1 and the Nikon J1 is at #2 now! What number is your Sony NEX 6 though? :-)

Ah, I see: the beef is hamburger. But maybe we can confuse that with sirloin, such as one confuses compact system with mirrorless system. :P

Interesting thing about this list is that, of the top 20 items, only two cameras are still in production, the K-01 and X-Pro1. Many items are lenses. Fully eleven (11) cameras are on the top 20 only because they were discontinued and thus heavily discounted. Some like the EP1 are long discontinued!

Moral of the story: you can't sell a mirrorless camera until it is replaced by a new model.

Yes I think it is a sin, but to each his own. go, be happy, take pictures. I want a viewfinder.

It's not a coincident that Nikon has 4/10 of the top CSC sales on Amazon Germany. And, 3/10 on Amazon UK.

Of course, the low price level means that margin is lower. BUt, that's offset by the higher volume. Looks like Nikon is on target for the sales of a million N1 cameras per year.

As well as profit from the sale of lenses. IMO, the small cheap lenses will help N1 drive forward into the future which will be very competitive.

Consumers rejoice.
