I bought a lenshood several weeks ago for my G2. I go for a metal one w/c is 3 times more expensive than the ordinary collapsible rubber hoods coz it look's good on the G2. Yesterday on a field trip I was able to test it with several shots and notice on the preview "a little" vignetting issues on the corner a wide end.

Although it's only little. but I dont think I ever wanted to use it again. could it be the reason of the extended portion caused by the lensmate adapter and the Hoya UV filter? (I put the lenshood in front of my Hoya UV filter). I wonder why din't I read of issues like this before .... =(

Is the lens hood 49mm or 58mm? There's one heck of a lot of vignetting with the 49mm, so I left it alone.

I had a similar problem when mounting a standard rubber lenshood
over lensmate+UV. I also got slight vignetting. But I was aware
of that problem before and ordered both a normal and a wide angle
lens hood. So I use the WA hood and it works fine, and I'm sure
it helps to avoid flares.

There are some ultra-thin UV filters from Hoya (HMC Super Pro), which
do have front threads. That might be a solution. But up to now I wasn't
able to get one.

That's correct Sam, actually if it wasn't for the availability issue I would have gotten that UV filter already instead of the standard SHMC version.

Hi, This is Susan with LensMate - the 49mm Hakuba normal (not wide) collapsible rubber hood that we sell will not vignette at any focal length if you put it on the adapter first, then the filter over that. Before you try thin filters, be sure it's not the hood vignetting.

Hope this helps, Susan

Probably because nobody did this before. :)

Why would you use a metal lens hood on the G2? You've already got the hard adapter protecting the lens. If you're doing this just for the geek factor, then what's a little vignetting?

If you want to minimize the chance of flare just get a simple collapsible hood, preferably one that has been tested with the G2.

yes I was given a choice before with another collapsible rubber lenshood w/c has a bigger diameter (in my opinion will not cause vignetting), but I choose the metal one w/c has a smaller diamter coz it looks cool =)
