On an aside, what do you guys think about people who store 500+ images on PBase and don't at least contribute to it? As a free user, I am constantly rotating what's on display so as not to take advantage of the free server space. I use PBase primarily to show off my work to friends, family, etc. without them stumbling upon my personal site. For me it's not a place to store every photo I've ever taken. Your thoughts?

Nicole:

On the one hand, those are the risks of business. Pbase has continuously intimated they were going to start charging, sometimes saying "prices to be announced in a few days" but then nothing shows up. I just realized, after the 'stolen photos" thread, that the person who runs Pbase lives just a few miles from me. Perhaps I'll drop in on him some day and see what's shaking, lol.

I certainly think it's a good gesture to contribute. I chose to make the full contribution, but not everyone can afford--nor should the feel compelled--to do so. It would certainly seem though, that if someone is gonig to use it and take advantage of it's simple and clean interface and storage, at least a small contribution wouldn't hurt..if you can afford to send $10.00 then by all means, do so! I'm sure it all adds up and helps out in the long run. I'd rather see this than have an advertiser supported site.

Even if they contribute, I don't see the logic in using pbase for mass storage. A CD is a much simpler solution. It's not as if anyone is going to look through a huge gallery of unsorted, unedited pictures anyway.

My photoalbum is kind of old. I should update it sigh . The most recent pictures is in "Themes".

Hmmmmm... maybe I should update stuff before i post the link.... oh heck, it just show how lazy I've been the last year (I blame it on the wedding that I planned a year).

--Hi Nicole, (ThanX Ken)
I’ve never used a free site.

If I did use a free site, I think: I would conduct my behavior as I do in/on any ones property, with manors and care.

I think as long as you follow the written guide lines as to volume of the sites restrictions, you should have no problem with putting up many images.

But I firmly believe that it always comes down to abuse before a limit can be un-tolerable for the web-masters of these sites.
P.S. I don’t have a very organized gallery right now but:

(It’s always here)

Nicole, your post prompted me to do something I've neglected for too long. I just made a contribution to pbase.com, in return for the excellent services they've provided me over the past 6 months. It's a wonderful way to share photos with friends and family scattered around the country, and Slug deserves our thanks and support for hosting our galleries.

to use Pbase as anything but a gallery with a few choice subjects for family or clients to view. Although I am on dial-up I would think it would be much faster and safer to archive images on a CD. CD-RW's are around .89 a piece that is .00127...... cents a mg. CD-R's are about .38 a piece. Everything in my gallery is 200K or lower............ Great thread........ I am excited to view the images that are around from people that frequent this place. I could never archive my originals since most are 1.5 to 14 megs. Happy Sunday, Cappy

Some folks will abuse a freebie no matter what. I use (and have paid for) pbase as a "public" site and use the space my ISP provides for more personal pictures for friends and family. Coincidentally, before reading your message here I decided to make my site a tad more presentable and went through and deleted most (but not all) full size photos that I had on it. It was such a waste of space. All my new uploads are of files that are much reduced in size.
