I just read that Google acquired Nik Software 1 month ago on 17 Sep. 2012. I hope they don't ruin it.

If you want to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter - just scroll down a bit and read the multiple posts on the topic... lots of discussion there!

Not sure why you think Google will ruin it... consensus is they bought them only for Snapseed which they will surely embed into hangouts, etc... the only issue becomes Nikon Capture... hasn't been worked on in years and the only thing it had going for it was Nik's Upoint.... without Nik... it is doomed.

I was thinking about Piknik which Google bought two and a half years ago. They made it free and then in April 2012 decided to shelve the standalone version and incorporate it into Google+.

You're right about Nikon Capture NX. I wonder what Nikon's next move is... Nikon's a hardware company that wrote buggy software when they were doing it in-house. There hasn't been any new version of Nik Color Effects for Nikon Capture as well.

Clearly Google were after Snapseed.

I doubt they care much about Nik's other products -- the plugins for PS and LR.

Capture NX remains under Nikon's control (although some of the technology was purchased from Nik). But with no major updates in the past 4 years NX looks pretty much like a dead duck to me.
