I'll probably upgrade, though I may see if the price falls first. I'm still shooting with a 20D (why? because it still shoots...), but have been toying with the idea of going full frame. I honestly don't need much in the way of advanced autofocus -- what I'd like are:
1. Better image quality. I feel like I'm at the outer edge of what the 20D can do, and I'd like to see what something FF can handle.
2. Silent shooting. I've missed too many shots in churches or museums because I didn't want to disturb anyone with the 20D's clattering shutter.
3. A level. I work hard to get my shots level -- a tool to help with that would be nice.
4. Expanded ISO performance.
5. Dust prevention.
6. Spot metering. Yes, that's right, I said spot metering. I'd like spot metering. Which you probably get on a flippin' iPhone these days, but if anyone can still remember the 20D...wasn't a feature back then. I don't need it enough to make it worth upgrading to another cropped camera, but it'd sure be nice.
Here's what I don't need:
1. A far advanced auto focus system. The 20D isn't brilliant, but for what I do I don't miss many shots. Something just slightly better than that would be fine.
2. A high burst rate. It's just not relevant to what I shoot.
3. A high flash sync rate. I don't get much opportunity for flash anyways.
4. GPS, WiFi, etc. But, hey, if it comes with it...
So, for me, a 6D could be a pretty nice fit. It mainly does the things I want, and doesn't do the things I don't need a camera to do. My one gripe is that it has only 1/4000 shutter speed maximum -- which just seems odd to me. (I rarely shoot at 1/8000...but I do from time to time.) But I can deal.
I'm not an early adopter (I. still. shoot. a. 20D), and it won't be out in time for my vacation this year, so I'll probably wait for the price to come down -- but I'll likely upgrade.
