Hi all , i have some hard times with the head of my tripod , its metal all right but its too old and not that accurate ,as the parts change place when i am trying to lock the head in one position , i discover it at the time that i was trying to get some moon shots , just to lock the moon at the center of the view finder needs lots of effort ..

Any way the point is that i need one new tripod head , capable of panoramas ,plus basic movements .

I have check for some good tripods ,but i have find out that only the tripods for video cameras they do have some extra quality parts on them , so in order to get the all thing , i think that it will be a good idea to spent some cash just for one worthy head that will follow me with any style of tripod that i have , or get .

Do you have any recommendation's !!! I guess that the ones with 2 or 3 position levers is what i would need, but give my your preferences on that .. I do not like the ball heads , so can you point me in something good .. I do plan to spent 100 -150$ on that ..

Although I can't afford it, I have always thought the Arca Swiss B1 was more or less the best head. But since you aren't interested in a ball type...

I think that you need to read this then :) http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=001erw

Personally i am thinking to get the manfrotto basic or standard 3 way head , i have see and the Cullman head , but it looks that the manfrotto is more easy to find .

I bought a manfrotto 460MG a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. Its quite compact so its easy to carry along when its attached to the tripod. It also has a spiritlevel (the UZI covers it partly) and a quickrelease plate.
Costs about 100 € here in Finland.

I was quite impressed with the Bogen/Manfrotto 3410 head which is about 100-130$

It has all the adjustments you want and comes with 3 levels just so you don't get people complaining about your photos being on an angle. I thought that was rather impressive and it looked like a very solid head.

My plan is to get that head with the 3021Pro Tripod which is about 150$

That head cost alot my friend .... The manfrotto or Bogen for the US looks fine as option ....

I am between the 141RC and the 029 models ,the 029 have got some very good reviews , I could also find localy in my town the Manfrotto Pro tripod with the Top Pro 3-way head of Manfrotto ,it cost as $290 US or Euros , but it needs a crane to move it around .. hehehe :)

My favorite are the Bogen Heads (I have three, 3063, 3039, and 3047). The first one has fluid motion and is really good for larger camera's, spotting scopes, and telescopes (I use Bogen 3246 tripod's). The last one is a cheapie that I use on a Gitzo Studex Pro monopod. The 3039 is a Pro model, with machined surfaces, fluid motion, 3-way. All use the quick release hex plates. Here is a shot of the 3039 with a C2040, Eagle Eye Lens, and B300 in front. If you want a 3-way, this is the best made IMO..

My tripod is like the 3033 , but a little smaller and more light weight . I do not know why Manfrotto or Bogen have not listed this tripod's any more . All the tripods that is listed on Manfrotto site its more expensive than the old series .. And my head is the 3030 or 141RC , that is the first with good quality , they do have one very cheap too , and my point is that i am saying goodbye to all the cheap tripods for good :-)

I was playing with the Manfrotto tripod at the shop today , this thing does not move no matter what !! I was trying to shake it deliberately , and the damn tripod was sitting there like to was glued with the floor . This tripod is 2.7 Kg and with the head 3.7Kg in total , the C2100 it will be like the cherry on the cake :-) hehehehe

Got my new Manfrotto head today , and its huge ,but you can feel by the first look and touch , that this is something special and professional , I do not know what heads ,you have stacked on your tripods , but the Manfrotto 141RC is one king who is looking for one throne to seat .

I just took the head with out the Manfrotto 190B tripod , but i will get it as soon i will get some extra cash , my old tripod it does handle the new head , but the 190B is The Tripod to have ...

I have only one small complain about the quick release plate , its a little wider that what i was hoping so you can not replace the batteries in the UZI with to remove it completely ,other than that i am very happy .. I got it in one small shop that was have it in stock for only 60 Euros , the latest price of it is 85 Euros .. Nothing can take the smile of my face today hahahahaha :-)
