I thought some of you may appreciate some photos from Japan (and elsewhere), mostly taken with my NEX C3.

I have had my NEX C3 for a year, after my excellent girlfriend bought me one for my birthday just before a trip to Okinawa.

We live in Japan, and I travel occasionally with work, and document life through my lens as much as possible. I'm thinking of getting the SEL18200LE and perhaps one of the new NEX cameras with phase detection autofocus, as that will be a considerable jump from my current NEX C3 kit (though I did purchase a Voigtlander lens!).

I regularly updated photos on my photoblog here:

and flickr:

I hope you enjoy my photos! (Here's a few recent randoms)

Happy snapping to the rest of the NEX community! :)

I've made a new website, and I have a blog of (almost) daily life in Japan:

I'd appreciate any comments or feedback on any photos.

Excellent shots. Nice postprocessing too.

Very nice to see the shots and some clever work in there. Love the colours.

All the best and very well done on both sets of shots.

Danny.

Kosagi│ NEX-7 & Canon FD 50mm F1.4 │ 50mm, ISO 400, f/2, 1/30, 0EV

Kosagi, or the Little Egret, is a bird related to the heron, with snow-white plumage, a long, pointed black bill and black legs with bright yellow feet. Its body is 50-60 cm long. This specimen was spotted in a tiny rock pool within the Rikugien Gardens in Tokyo. He was hunting for crabs… and managed to find a few! The late-afternoon sun was cascading through the trees and falling onto the mossy rocks beneath with such a vibrant green, that this pure-white bird really stood out like nothing I’ve seen before.

These are great. As someone else said, I really like your processing style. I'm finding my own photos are more well-received when I use a more dramatic, saturated style.

Thank you very much :-)

Lovely work, I really enjoyed these photos. What was the Voigtlander lens used?

All the best,

Chris

Thanks, Chris. I use a Voigtländer Nokton Classic 35mm F1.4 with my NEX-7.

Good question. Asians love cats, and I found myself joining in, whilst I originally intended to photograph the people photographing the cats, I couldn't help taking a shot myself :)

They're just some cute cats someone brings to the pedestrian area of Ginza, and they've become quite famous in modern Tokyo folklore.

Thanks for sharing these photos.

Brings back a lot of memories.

The one in Shinjuku with the taxis is a good shot of modern Tokyo.

What kind of pp do you do and what software? Are there any masks in there?

I shoot in RAW, and all of these were all processed in lightroom, with a couple of tonal changes, and saturation changes (e.g. to isolate green, i removed all other colours).

No masks in these. Though I have used masks before, I try to avoid it, unless necessary.
