"EOS M is World's First Serious Mirrorless Camera" - KR

all on page one.

I know that doing a search before starting a tread is "impossible".

But could we at least look on page one before starting a new thread?

Is that asking too much?

Tedolph.

P.S. I know, nobody wants to hear this.
You are correct. But it is still entertaining,..

Do you suppose HE thinks it's funny?
"I continue to do this site all by myself for fun — probably the last remaining 1990's for-fun website that hasn't sold out to other interests. Even though it has become popular, presumably because so many people find it helpful, it is still run just for fun. I am this site's only author. I have no one to proofread, spell check or fact check for me, so there will always be errors and omissions. Apparently the world finds my opinions very useful, but remember, they are the opinions of one man. I have a big sense of humor, and do this site to entertain you (and myself), as well as to inform and to educate. I occasionally weave fiction and satire into my stories to keep them interesting. I love a good hoax."

Maybe he did regard it as hilarious. But somehow, I really don't think he was kidding. He meant every word of it.

What could ever be more fun than collecting money?

So many claim KR is absurd, yet continue to follow him and then give free promotion by ranting about what he has to say.

Something makes sense not.
Haven't looked at his site in many months. No point if he's not writing about things interesting. And he's not quite absurd enough to be really interesting himself...

He's good for a laugh, but that is about all.
You can say what you want about him. But he is still an excellent professional photographer. A lot of the posters on this forum are not.
Maybe so. But "professionals" know enough to constrain their public commentary to subjects within scope of the profession they profess to be skilled at.

Launching into grandiose pronouncements that obviously sound silly to many in the audience is not particularly consistent with the idea of "professional".

Probably. How often do people spontaneously follow "the rules"?

Maybe on the road when there's a cop following them. Otherwise when driving, do people as a rule limit speed to the speed limit?

I didn't think so either.

Serious sounds heavy. Big. Humorless. Without imagination or creativity. It's, well, too serious.

I have an unpleasant mental image of wanting to go out one afternoon for some lighthearted imaging, only this 'serious' camera is frowning at me.

No. You can't do that. You must take the subject... seriously.

But I was going to look for some weird bugs on flowers in the forest...

No, that is forbidden. The only photographs permitted are garbage cans, unshaven homeless people, and destitute children on a dirty urban street. And they must have shallow depth of field.

Really? That sounds rather serious.

At least I'm giving you the option of using color. I was going to restrict you to monochrome.

I think I'll pass on the 'serious' camera. It's too serious for me.

LOL ... I always find Mr. R's comment more about incitement and gross over / understatement than anything serious. Comedian like. Not even satirical ... A good laugh but hardly anything informative nor even close.

you'll find thousands of amateurs on Flickr with far more talent. If you love over-saturated pictures of road and motel signs then you'll love Ken. There's nothing original or inspiring about any of his work, not that I've seen anyway. He's a competent photographer, nothing more.

Coming from someone who evangelises on a daily basis about the EPL-1 and legacy lenses I think you're on a bit of a sticky wicket there mate ;).

LOL.

"Serious" mirrorless camera without a viewfinder, flash, and easy control dials for ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, EV like the NEX-7 and EM-5 have for example?

This camera competes with the likes of a NEX-5N, and that's it. It's the same scenario. Touch screen LCD, but no viewfinder, dial controls.

I've not read the article, I don't need too.

Statements like that are nothing short of an attempt to drive traffic and make himself look popular. A pure marketing ploy, probably not even his opinion.

Not to mention the inaccuracy of it, not that there isn't other 'serious' mirrorless cameras out there, but that the EOS M is serious. I doubt even Canon think it's serious, it's their test of the market.

The fact it's even posted here on dpreview show that the random statements are working. He's read a marketing book and all of them will mention the word controversy gets attention, this is simply that.

I like everything about the camera except for the focus speed which is a deal breaker for me. I am basing my personal opinion** about AF speed based upon the videos that have been released and what some of the websites that have reported on this issue. Now I am hoping that by October they would do something magical and improve the focus speed substantially but if that doesn't happen, I will have to wait till version 2 of EOS-M :(.

what is "serious" is open to interpretation...

don't agree with him, but still...
Quite so. If that's the best Canon can come up with after all this time it is VERY serious for Canon.

It is all too often as in the case of the knucklehead she is commenting on that people who make absurd assertions get attention just because it is so much foolishness. He gets activity just by posting nonsense.
You are correct in inferring that he would best be ignored.
