Hi,

I've recently upgraded for a 450d to a 650d. Previously I could open the raw files in photoshop elements 10, however now it comes up with an error message saying "it cannont open file because it is the the wrong type of file".

Also when I load the raw files into picasso or photomatrix, a purple tint appears across the photos. However they load fine in canon's digital photo professional.

I never had this problem with the 450d. I was wondering if canon has changed it raw file in some ways on the newer cameras and if anyone knows a work around or fix for these issues. Do other people also have this problem?

I have looked on other forums but so far I haven't been able to find the solution. I have install all the latest drivers.

Thanks.
James.

Did you download/install the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw?

Again, check if there are any updated versions of the software you are using.

If not, a possible workaround may be to download the latest DNG converter from Adobe, convert your raw files to dng, and try opening the dng file in your preferred software.

Peter

You need to update your software. The old versions that you have don't know how to deal with the sensor on the T4i/650D. For Photoshop Elements, go to the Help menu and choose Updates.

This is always an issue with new cameras. You need to have updated software in order to correctly process the Raw files that those cameras create.

Thanks, however I have already updated the camera raw plugin to the latest version. The canon 650d is supposed to be on the list of supported cameras, however it won't load the files.

I was wondering if anyone else with a canon 650d has been able to load raw files directly into PS?

Oh, I see. Photoshop Elements 10 can't use the latest versions of Adobe Camera Raw (7.0 and 7.1). You need Photoshop CS6 for that.

probably but you can always use the latest DNG Converter to import RAW files into PS

I suggest that you try the free demo of Corel AfterShot Pro. It is a full featured demo so you can try out all of the goodies. It really is an amazing raw processor with a sensible interface and enough Photoshop like features that you may find you seldom need to do any post processing. It even has layers and selective editing. It also has batch processing so you can make all of your adjustments and then turn it loose to process to jpg (or tiff). AfterShot is very fast and designed to utilize multi-core processors.

It seems that there is limited support for the T4i raw images at the moment. The only software I've found that can handle these images is Lightroom 4.1. Good Luck.

Hi James,

I just bought the 650D (my first DSLR) and downloaded the trial version of PSE 10. I got the same error message that you got about supported files types and also the pink hue when trying to watch my RAW pictures in Picasa. I've installed the latest version of camera raw but to no availe.

Cheers / Jonas

I used Canon 650D software. Converted RAW into jpg. They now open normally in Picasa. The RAW versions wouldn't open in Paint Shop Pro X4 nor in AfterShotPro.

should open with Canon DPP or Photoshop CS5 camera RAW

I'm hoping that a Picasa update will fix this soon, but I'm not holding my breath. In the mean time, here is a fix that worked for me...

Download and install the free Adobe DNG Converter:

Then you just batch convert all your T4i .cr2 files into DNG (Adobe Digital Negative) images and you can edit them just fine in Picasa.

Hope this helps,

Stephen
