Went out for a drive last evening and found one i'm happy enough with.

I love the IQ from the 55-300, given its pricing or as a kit lens. Not a lens I am going to get rid of in any hurry. Sharp and nice colours all the way through the focal lengths.(after i forgive the noisy AF)

.......................enjoy

lovely!
in what part of Universe was it taken?

The galaxy of Western Australia........just south of Perth.

Very nice.

Lovely sunset! Nice shot!
I gave my 55-300 to my son and got myself the cheaper version...as good IQ!
A lens definitely worth keeping.
Cheers

Yea thats a winner of a pic. Amazing colors, hues in the background.

I bought the DA55-300mm when it first came out; at my local store. It was a trial for 10 days. I was hooked and kept it and sold my other telephoto zoom. I can't justify spending more for any zoom telephoto. I can't even for a prime telephoto. As you say the lens crosses the line of being more than good enough at any focal length and aperture. Yet its compact and light. Its true strengths do not show in MTF50 tests, so many don't fully understand the lens.

oh, that's why it has kind of local vibes ,I am just north of Perth

Beautiful just ignore the noisy AF.

If you don't mind me saying if you cropped the left twig this would eliminate the distraction and put the tree more off center, then you'd have a perfect shot IMO.

Great shot! It looks like someone's sitting in the right crook of the tree, or is that just an odd-looking limb?

I agree with Dean about cropping out that little bit of twigs on the far left -- or you could just clone it out, or something, if you don't want to change the composition. One thing I noticed was a bit of a "ring" in the lower part of the photo, which looked like the circle of the bottom of the lens. I'm not sure if that was some lens flare, or what, but it was the ONLY part of the photo (other than the little twigs) I found distracting. Otherwise, that's a TREMENDOUS photo!

Keep up the great shooting. I'm certainly with you on that 55-300. The more I use mine, the happier I am with it!

I like this picture a lot. Wintertime trees, stripped of their leaves and silhouetted against a sunset/sunrise I always find quite beautiful and compelling and this one is particularly nice. As I understand it, trees, like other things in nature, follow a basic fractal design of a repeated pattern that gets smaller and smaller. I think this accounts for some of the beauty. Plus, there is a quality to the light of winter sunsets that I think makes them more intense than during other seasons, and this also accentuates the beauty of the scene. You also see the same thing in blood vessels in the human body, going from the arteries down to the capillaries. I think with some pictures of wintertime trees if you converted to greyscale, inverted black and white and rotated 180 degrees you could actually get a photo that could be mistaken for a radiograph of blood vessels.

The 55-300mm is a lens which I also use with great satisfaction.

Very nice colors and mood.

I guess the big circle at the bottom of the frame is a leftover of the post-processing (it looks like a big brush stroke).

Also, the masking along the vegetation gives a strong halo. I think this masking was not necessary as the foreground is almost black anyway.

Still, after these minor corrections (including cloning out the branches on the left), it will do a great print.

cheers

Thanks guys, will take on board the constructive assessment.

I think the circle people may be talking about is a result of lighting effect in photoshop.

The end result is a slightly exaggerated version of what my eye saw, but the Kx sensor being so good in low light gave less of the pinks and blues against the water.
When I get a chance to rectify I will have another go.
Thanks team
