Best locations to take photos in Boston, Philadelphia, New York City, and DC?

How would you guys start your day in NYC for picture taking to not only avoid the crowds, but get better lighting? I'm thinking of starting in downtown and go up The Rock at night. Any idea when I should lineup at either the Rock or the Empire State Building?

I'm originally from Boston and have spent a lot of time over the years shooting there. I'd recommend th harbor area especially the Harbor Walk early in the morning for great shots of the skyline. Then later, at dusk for night shots.

Boston Common is nice, but the Public Gardens right next to it are much much nicer. Swan boats, a pond with a picturesque bridge, views of the skyscrapers.

Old cemeteries like Granary Burial Ground and Kings College Chapel can provide interesting pictures too.

Walk through the Back Bay by walking up Commonwealth Ave from Arlington to Hereford St. It's a wide mall with trees, statues, classic Victorian mansions and lots of people to photograph.
