snake_b turned mhike turned steakb

mhike's gallery is thumbnailed so he has been banned. Looks like troll_b has popped up under yet another alias.
Ok, but I think it is now moment to stop worrying, and start laughing, or in the worst case, ignoring.

He will create as many account as as the ones you (we?) manage to block, so it is clear that this does not work, so i think it is better just not to answer his comments, and just laugh at his (her?) nonsense.

It is very difficult to navigate around his comments as they outnumber anyone else's and also not everything he writes is nonsense. I think he needs to make a decision on either having an interest in photography or annoying people as he cannot do both indefinitely, I suppose taking these choices is what is called maturity and he has not reached that stage yet. I suppose yours is the best way to cope with it at the moment but I am afraid there is little to laugh at.

Ignoring his comments doesn't work, either - he just posts more frequently. Besides, someone invariably doesn't get it and responds to his falsetto 'Oh, no! Is WiFi useless on this camera? What should we do?' type sarcasm.

The problem isn't people worrying; the responsibility should not be placed at the feet of forum contributors that suffer this behavior in almost every single thread. It's a drag on user participation, especially in cases where we want to discuss real issues with our cameras and he's right there to taunt with sarcasm. That's why normally lightly moderated DPR has seen fit to ban him, repeatedly.

If you're OK with letting snakeb-mhike-steakb post freely and you don't see how that brings the forum down, good for you. Perhaps you can take your own advice and ignore those who choose to identify, report or call him on his antics.

Everyone, go take some photos, drink some beers (something else if under drinking age in your country) or do something constructive. :)

I agree Eric. like shutting up and shooting more with their cameras.

I do not get personally riled up by him; the fact that he trolls so often shows he doesn't have a real life.

However, it does get annoying because, as has been said, he can't be ignored all the time since new users who are not familiar with him suddenly question the quality of Samsung or whatever camera he is attacking or question the user he is personally attacking.

Anyway, the fact that he has to come here to make a name for himself says miles about what his actual life is like.

It'd be nice. If he wasn't posting in just about every single thread, constantly.

As others are pointing out, it's hard to weed him out, with all his new accounts and his veiled sarcasm mixed with occasional relevant comments to lure those unfamiliar or with short memories.

I know a couple here want to shoot the messengers, but the truth is, even when nobody replies he still posts over and over again . I've stopped responding to him for months on end and he's still here, causing problems. Remove him from the equation and the forum would be more active and productive.

Got himself perma banned in less than 3 days this time; that has got to be a record.
Maybe he calls himself steakb because his accounts have been cooked so many times now ;)

Anyway, just a heads up, not that you can't instantly recognize him anyway by his no-life trolling like he did in my pentax post:

It looks like the moderators have seen enough of him recently that he was recognized for what he/they are. The moderators are firing on all cylinders now, probably with a little help from the [Complain] button.

Remove him from the equation and the forum would be more active and productive.
Must have been a case of 'from your lips to somebody's ears'.

Now that was a surgical level steak cut.

If they are listening, I for one deeply appreciate the effort. Kudos to admin -- I'm going to go click through some ads. :)

Not it wasn't, they threw away the steak. The EX1 replacement thread is missing several comments discussing issues which are interesting, and therefore these must have been thrown away for no reason other than steakb participating in it.

I'd much rather see moderators doing what they should on the fuji forum and kick Letkeman out, he is, despite some knowledge, much more of a nuisance. [ Btw. for those thinking I was wrong about him having no humour, after his comment in reply to someone asking what the dog/cat modes are for: That wasn't humour, but criticism. Others thought it was (sarcastic) humour. But sarcasm = critical humour, remove the humour and you have criticism. Then later in that thread I read a comment by him and indeed (as I expected), he was criticising the original poster. I will add a description this to my page about problems on forums... ]

Moderators: Now take action in the Fuji forum please, it's still bad place to be...

And reinstate my comment about Sony in the EX1 replacement thread.

Perhaps I'll just post it again :)

It is a pity about the sub threads which manged to get on the rails again but it would be difficult to pick out the good bits only. It shows that when he re-appears it is best not to post in response to him.

In a way DPR are saying do not feed the troll or your words of wisdom may be permanently lost.

True, but if there is moderation going on, then why not leave the good comments in? This is the problem with snake_b: He's not really a troll, just someone who makes some comments that I agree with and are good, others are incessantly whiny and repeats of what he said earlier. This is just his personality. True trolls don't care about the subject matter and just post to stir things up, and he is not like that. This means it's good to ignore the whiny comments, but the others are sometimes useful. When snake_b was snake_b I ignored him because of the too low signal to noise ratio, but his behaviour in later incarnations was decidedly better. Perhaps he will change :)

I don't think the snake's forum behavior / personality will change.

He obviously has some gear and photo knowledge that he shares at times in the forums but more often than not he fails to communicate and participate effectively . And it seems that he doesn't realize he has this behavior problem since he blames others for the problem he causes. There's a good possibility he is mentally handicapped. Banning him is the only answer.

exactly. this is the reason why I don't comment as much about the person. I choose to ignore. but in all honesty, recently he has been a very good boy. it's too bad that others can't see that and continue to be whiny for reasons that I don't know. the problem is that some people are just whiny and can't distinguish the difference from as you said trolling from saying or asking something constructive from the person. if they continue to be like that, then they are much worse than the person they kept on criticizing. to be honest, I'm much more annoyed by the whining now compared to something to fault about the person. rather than say or validate one's feelings of annoyance towards the person, can or did the others thought about if their own acts are starting to be or much as annoying as the person the are criticizing? or atleast tell themselves this is where I need to stop?

the people I'm referring to surely are contributors of this board, but it doesn't mean just because of it that they are free from acting like bigots as well. sadly, some of them deny or don't notice it about themselves and it's sad.

Your trust in the troll is completely misplaced and I'm amazed that you can't recognize his/their malevolence. A large percentage of the trolls' posts and OPs are intentionally designed to be forum irritants. You evidently missed or didn't understand the significance of the frequent use of "LULZ" by this/these immature trolls. I imagine that you're not familiar with this initializm, but it's most definitely not an innocent replacement for LOL.
lulz: Often used to denote laughter at someone who is the victim of a prank, or a reason for performing an action. This variation is often used on the Encyclopedia dramatica wiki and 4chan image boards. According to a New York Times article about Internet trolling, "lulz means the joy of disrupting another's emotional equilibrium."[31] Can be used as a noun — e.g. "do it for the lulz.", shortened into "ftlulz" (to distinguish it from "ftl" - "for the lose").[32][33] See also LulzSec.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOL

█▄ █▄█ █▄ ▀█▄ is laughter at someone else's expense (from the German concept of "Schadensfreude"). Sometimes you may see the word spelled as luls or lolz if the writer doesn't know what they're talking about. Lulz is said to be engaged in by Internet users who have witnessed one major economic/environmental/political disaster too many, and who thus view a state of voluntary, gleeful sociopathy over the world's current apocalyptic state.

It is not a substitute for lol.

If you want an idea of what lulz is, consider A Streetcar Named Desire and The Simpsons. With the former, think of what Stanley Kowalski "tells" Blanche Dubois after he exposed her true past to her suitor and tore down all of Blanche's fantasies. He, in her face, yelled "HAA HAA!" With the latter, consider Nelson Muntz's "ha ha!" laugh. Both Stanley Kowalski and Nelson Muntz are having "lulz."
Common usage

The term 'lulz' was first coined by Jameth, an original Encyclopedia Dramatica administrator, and the term became very popular on that website. From there it went on to be adopted vehemently by the group anonymous who were known to frequent that website.

Knowledgeable users of the term state that after every action taken, you must make the epilogic dubious disclaimer: "I did it for the lulz" and this will clear you of all guilt.
Example Sentences
  • I trolled this kid on IRC the other day, I think I even made him cry, it was epic lulz.

http://ohinternet.com/Lulz

LULz is sometimes used to express excitement about another person's misfortune or after getting away with a prank.

I Did it for the Lulz (also known as 4 the lulz) is a popular catchphrase used to express that one carried out a specific action for the sake of personal comic enjoyment. This is sometimes used to to explain why one has posted offensive, far-fetched or disgusting contents on image boards and discussion forums.

"I did it for the lulz" (IDIFTL) is a catchphrase which serves as an explanation for any trolling you do or any internet drama you cause.

Before Hitler shot himself, it has been recorded that he said "I don't understand. I did it for the lulz." It took 5 years for people to notice that killing Jews is lulz worthy, making Hitler ahead of his time.
You see someone get hit by a car and laugh. Someone asks why you laughed and you say "I did it for the LULZ"

You troll all over the internet and say to anyone who asks you why "I did it for the LULZ"

Sorry, but this last comment shows an appalling blindness to the intentional malevolence and forum mayhem that was the main reason for the existence of snake_b, mhike and steakb. You apparently also missed his/their numerous comments about how DPReview wouldn't be able to ban him/them because he would keep coming back with new forum IDs and the forum disruption would continue. That you think that exposing and condemning malevolent, immature trolls is bigoted and sad says a lot more about you than you realize. But the snake will almost certainly be back in a new skin, and that will be alright with you, I suppose.
