D800E Requiring Substantially More Light Than D7000?

I finally got to take my D800E out in the field last week and while I was very happy with the daytime performance, I struggled with nighttime shooting. I had been happily using an SB-900 and 2 R200 remote strobes for my macro photography with a 105mm for quite a while now. I put the same setup on my D800E and i have to bump the ISO to 500 and increase flash output 3EV and it was still underexposed. Can someone explain to me what's going on here? I thought with the larger sensor, the D800E would require less light?
Thanks in advance!

Please check all setting for both strobes and the camera.

I agree. For all intents and purposes they should have the exact same exposure under the exact same light. A shot under the exact same lighting at a set ISO, F stop and Speed SHOULD give you the exact same exposure with any camera. Of course that is not 100% right as each camera is not 100% matching the spec (ie ISO 100 may not actually be 100 buy might be 72) but still should be very close to the same.
