B&H Shipped the EM-5...

I also made the "mistake" of waiting till I had read and seen enough to be sure I wanted to purchase it. That apparently put me far enough behind the line not to receive the first batch. Perhaps I should go with the "preorder and perhaps cancel" route next time. But in the end, it's only a camera.
 
I first ordered the black E-M5 with the 14-42mm lens from B&H right after pre-orders opened, but then canceled the order. I decided I wanted the 12-50mm instead and ordered that from Amazon. (I thought B&H, with whom I've done business since I lived a few blocks away from their old store on 17th Street off of 6th, was charging my card when I ordered; but I've since learned they were only getting authorization.)

Well, surprise, surprise! B&H sent out the kit to me today, scheduled to arrive Friday. Henry - I really did cancel the order and I hope you'll send me a UPS label to send it back. I still love ya!

Well, I was pretty happy when I saw "New order processing" on my status but it stuck there for a while and I called to ask. Micheal from BH told me that they don't have ANY e-m5 and they think it's 1-2 weeks before they have it. I'm a little confuse why some people got confirmation from BH. You guys VIP or something? :) Now they change the status back to backordered....this sucks.
 
Did you order just a body or body+kit lens? Kits are shipping first.

Sounds about right - I ordered a Black body-only on the late evening of 2/7, and the order is still listed as 'backordered'.

Not to dash your hopes but unlikely: I just called them and still no ETA whatsoever. :(

the upside is that we are "not too many [people on the list]", I was told, which presumably means not more than a dozen or less preorders so we have a good chance that Olympus will fulfill all of them in one shipment. I know I am #3 so I have high hopes... :)
 
Just like every other store that's shipping. They got a few in and shipped them out to whoever was at the top of the list.
 
Most brick and mortar stores that I called, said they got 2,3 cameras shipped to them, one store said only one camera was shipped to it.

Supply seems to be extremely spread thin.

Nah...just ordered within minutes of it going live on B&H.

If you think this is slow, you should try to find a Nikon D800...they've been "out" for a month, but most places only got 2 or 3.

Between the NEX7, E-M5 and D800, I'm thinking the floods of last year are still having a major impact on manufacturing...if not the cameras themselves, then components that are in them.

No the thailand flood have "pretty much" back to normal, unless you are talking about specific unique components that have no alternate available. I work in the electronic manufacturing industry so I got an insider view.

I was in there this morning dealing with a case insert. Stopped by the Oly desk and then went and found a black floor model that they were still installing security bits on. I obviously don't know from the IQ, but its a sweet sweet sweet handling camera. Just about dead on perfect for how I'd like a camera to handle.

Guy told me I could have walked out of there with a silver with the 12-50. If I hadn't just bought an X-Pro 1...

Evidently you don't get an email when they're shipping? Just logged onto my account, and it's showing it with a tracking number - ready to be picked up by shipper.

Silver with 12-50mm kit + fl300r flash. Ordered on 2/8 as well. Really psyched - although the common sense part of my brain says I should have bought the GH2 for $599 - and wait for the 12-35mm to go with it.

Oh well - I credit this forum for sweeping me with the frenzy
 
That's is a cool feature on GH2. I am thinking of getting a 75mm f1.8. it is hard to hand hold on GH2 without a stabilizer for video, but I really want the Ext. tele feature so that 75mm becomes 75x2.7mm for video if I need.
 
Ordered silver 12-50 kit on 2-12-12. no status change. looks like the folks that may have ordered even a few days after pre-orders began will have to wait a while. bummer.
 
Well, I specifically asked to ship my camera and flash at the same time....now I see that they shipped the flashed without the camera. Is this going to be a problem? Didn't someone here contact Oly and they said they would honor the rebate anyway as long as you bought it after april 1 from the same place? What a disaster. Tried calling them but they're closed....will probably be on a truck by tomorrow morning :(

You're fine. Go look at the rebate page on Olympus's website.
