Hi,

I'm the owner of a Nex-5 since one week and I've a problem: I find it really difficult to insert the sd-card. It seems that it gets stuck somewere and it is very difficult to find the correct position to insert it. It takes me minutes sometimes.

I never had problems with other devices.

Is it the same for others or is my camera defective?

Bye

It should only insert one way. Don't force the card in the wrong position.

If the lens is pointing up and you've opened the battery door, insert the memory card with the electrical contacts of the card facing you (or away from the battery door).

You'll hear two mechanical clicking sounds and the card should stay seated. If you're still having trouble than you may have a damaged or defective card chamber.

Hi, I had a problem with the card slot of one of my NEX-5's. Card would not eject, could not be read. I sent the camera to the Texas repair facility under warranty, had it back in 10 days, door to door. They fixed the problem and upgraded the firmware. Works great ever since. It's easy-peasy, send it in, there are instructions on the Sony website. I would advise to just send the body, without lens, battery, card, strap and so forth. No sense sending things that are not needed at the repair facility, IMO, just in case something got mislaid.

Take a picture, it'll last longer.

No no, I know how to insert it and I maneged to: it's not my first camera :-)

The problem is that the card point up while inserting and it is very difficult to find a way to insert it.
When it is inserted it ejects easily and works correctly.

My question is: do you find difficulties too inserting a sd-card: is it common for nex-5?
Or is my camera faulty?

I don't understand?

The card has to be aligned properly. Then it should insert easily. If alignment is off, the card will not go in.

Since it ejects so easily, does it insert easily when partially ejected? Try a few times with ejecting it more rapidly, so that more of the card is ejected. Does the feel change?

My guess is that you hold the card in such a way that straight insertion is difficult. Figure out another way to hold it? Try tweezers?

Once inserted it works properly ? If yes something is wrong with your camera. You know that the socket is double sided, on side for SD the other for MS cards, but each card should fit only one one side. Maybe somebody tried the wrong side and damaged the socket sliding walls.

Thanks for the answers and sorry for my big delay.

I just want to report some final discoveries I've found on my problem: it seems that it arises only with some sd-cards models. Other brands/models inserts flawlessly.

I just wanna note that the sd-cards that show the problem with nex-5 have no problem with oher cameras I own; so it seems that NEX-5 (at least mine) is very tight on cards.

Anyway my quick solution was to use other card brands: thanks for your help :-)

I just had a similar problem with my 5n. The card would stop close to the bottom of the slot, but not all the way in. I think the latch came out somehow, and would not let the card go past. I ended up shaving part of an old card so it could be inserted with the latch out, and I was able to get the latch to release. Works OK now. I thsome something got oin there and jammed it a bit.
