There is an internet connection needed to set up the wifi network, see link:

http://www.eye.fi/how-it-works/setup

Is this setup only once needed when I configure my ipad and the Nikon D4 or everytime when I use the Eye-Fi with the ipad? I have the ipad only with the WiFi option without internet. In my studio I have no internet access so it's important that this wifi transmission will work without internet access.

Thanks

You only need to do that set-up one time. After that, you just power up the iPad and camera, select the eye-fi's network from the iPad Wifi menu, and then run the eye-fi app on the iPad. No internet connection required after that.

Hello All.

Can you connect your D4 to BB playbook using the same way or is there a better option. I am still waiting to get a D4 from my dealer in Toronto.

Thanks to all in advance for any suggestions.

that's correct the D4 doesn't have the SD slot. I've been using it on the D800.
thanks for all replies.

Here is a possibility to configure the Type II SD/CF adapter to a Type I.

Careful, some of those SD to CF adapters inhibit the transmission of the EyeFi - sometimes severely.

Thanks, and which APP on the ipad do you use to preview the pics?

What is the approx. range of the wirless signal of an Eye-Fi card. I imagine that with a CF adapter the range will be additional shorten.

Regarding the Nikon WT-5 and the D4. When I shoot with two memory cards, RAW + jepg basic for example, is it possible to send only the picture information from one of the card slots (jepg basic) to the ipad?

That's how I'm using the D800, Eye-Fi & iPad.

The Eye-Fi card gets Jpegs (for the size of a full D800 file it moves 'em pretty fast, not instantaneously but not glacially either) and the CF card gets the RAW.

The only downside to this setup that I've encountered is if the system goes to rest and there are other W-Fi signals available in the area the iPad starts trying to hookup with these other signals and forgets about the Eye-Fi card.

You have to go back into Settings and manually re-find the Eye-Fi card.

Someone have a solution to this I'd love to hear about it.

So far all good with the D800.
