There are lots of threads demanding a new D700. This thread isn't about whether or not that's what you want, it's trying to discover whether it would be worth Nikon's while. So, three questions.

1. Nikon's new FX range is D4 and D800(E). Do you intend buying either of these (or both or more than one)? Please be honest, window shopping doesn't count.

2. If Nikon introduced a D800H, D800 with D4 sensor and 6FPS (8 with grip), otherwise as D800, for a list price of $3000, would you buy this? If so, and you had intended buying a D4 or D800, would you buy the D800H instead or as well?

3. If Nikon introduced a D600, FX version of D7000 with D4 sensor, 6FPS (max, no speedup with grip), 97% VF, for a list price of $2400, would you buy this? If so, and you had intended buying a D4, D800 or D800H, would you buy the D600 instead or as well?

D800 (and I already paid the store). If I accidentally stumble over a lot of money (about 10x the D4 price), I would add a D4.
2. If Nikon introduced a D800H, D800 with D4 sensor and 6FPS (8 with grip), otherwise as D800, for a list price of $3000, would you buy this? If so, and you had intended buying a D4 or D800, would you buy the D800H instead or as well?
No, the only major downside of the D800 is the expense for a new graphic card and storage space and that would not outweigh the D800 base ISO advantage.
I might have bought it instead of the D800 (to save money) but it would have been a tough call.

I intend on buying a D4 right now. Far above my needs range as an avid amateur. My initial intrest in the D800 has waned to a real desire for the D4.

I would strongly consider the D800H. Instead.

Nope

Hi Bob:

All I need to compliment my D-700 is the D-800 I have on pre-order. I "might" consider item 2) D-800H to replace my D-700 in a year or two assuming one existed with those specs.

D800. - I'm switching from Canon (5D2 and 60D), preordered the D800, got already one Nikon lens, more to follow.
2. If Nikon introduced a D800H, D800 with D4 sensor and 6FPS (8 with grip), otherwise as D800, for a list price of $3000, would you buy this? If so, and you had intended buying a D4 or D800, would you buy the D800H instead or as well?
Not interested.

Slightly more interesting, especially if it is even smaller/lighter than the D7000. However, this would not have made me switch over from Canon at this point. But I would definitely be interested. If for example more small and very good f/1.8 primes materialize (like the rumored 28/1.8), such a small FF body in the Nikon system would become very tempting for me.

Really, the D800 ticks all the boxes for me. Maybe the D7000 model also if its similar in size and weight to the 7000

Yes - D800

Boob good questions and interesting thread, I hope Nikon could be listening to this.
(But they actually do with some of their internet/NPS questionnaires)
1. Nikon's new FX range is D4 and D800(E). Do you intend buying either of these (or both or more than one)? Please be honest, window shopping doesn't count.
Yes, I'm #1 on the list for both D4 and D800.
2. If Nikon introduced a D800H, D800 with D4 sensor and 6FPS (8 with grip), otherwise as D800, for a list price of $3000, would you buy this? If so, and you had intended buying a D4 or D800, would you buy the D800H instead or as well?
I've had the D3, D3X and D300 for 4 years now. I need one full bodied, high ISO performer, one high res cam and I really like having a lighter backup camera.

The introduction of a D800H would confuse me and I would likely stick with the D800 itself.
Yeah, I think I would buy this as my 3rd body so I can sell the D300.

I think it would be great for Nikon to release both a D400 DX, $1500-1700 and a D600 FX $2200.

Originally interested in both. But have since decided that I don't need the D4. I shall buy a D800(E).

No. The D800 offers a better fit.

No. The D800 offers a better bit.

P.S. Thank-you for all the sensor-related information you have provided in the past few months.

I'm going to get a d800 to try a bit of video. If it's turning out well I'll get a d4. Otherwise I'll get a D4 when my D3s needs replacing, but I have a rather new unit.
2. If Nikon introduced a D800H, D800 with D4 sensor and 6FPS (8 with grip), otherwise as D800, for a list price of $3000, would you buy this? If so, and you had intended buying a D4 or D800, would you buy the D800H instead or as well?
Probably not unless my D700 needs replacing. And that would be as well.
If they made the housing in plastic I would get one as well.

I really like having a plastic body to use when it's very cold outside, stops the skin on the fingertips to stuck on the body and being peeled off =)

D800E on order.

I'm waiting for the D400. I'll keep my D300 as backup (sell my D300s), but I'll likely buy an FX camera for backup eventually - but not likely the D4 or D800. The D800H appeals to me more, and I would buy only one FX camera. Otherwise I might pick up a used D3s.

Yes, D800. I shoot mostly wildlife and the DR combined with being able to put as many pixels as possible on the subject are important to me. As is the AF performance.
2. If Nikon introduced a D800H, D800 with D4 sensor and 6FPS (8 with grip), otherwise as D800, for a list price of $3000, would you buy this? If so, and you had intended buying a D4 or D800, would you buy the D800H instead or as well?
I would consider it for the speed, but I'd still be more inclined to buy a D4 if I were going down that road.
No, I'm used to composing with a 100% viewfinder and wouldn't want to give that up. For me a lot of the appeal of the D4 comes from the speed and the body itself, not the high ISO performance of the sensor, so without either of those it wouldn't be my choice. The D800 has plenty of high ISO for me with more DR and more resolution.

Still undecided. Definitely not the D4 as it is out of my price range and needs. I'm going to wait for the D800 to be tested/reviewed and I will make up my mind later. My plan is to wait until the end of the summer and see what is around then.
2. If Nikon introduced a D800H, D800 with D4 sensor and 6FPS (8 with grip), otherwise as D800, for a list price of $3000, would you buy this? If so, and you had intended buying a D4 or D800, would you buy the D800H instead or as well?
In a heartbeat. This is the dream camera for me.

Also a dream camera for me. It would be either this or the D800H, can't tell you for sure which of the 2 I would choose. As Nikon are unlikely to make both of them, if they make either one I would be very happy. My hope is that by the time I plan to upgrade closer to the end of the year, one of these two cameras will be announced (or at least rumored). If so I will wait a bit longer, otherwise I may have to settle for the D800.

For responses, I'm not replying to each not from rudeness, just to keep the maximum space for polling.

Keeping a spreadsheet going, the result so far, Nikon's product planning is clever.

Gong to bed now, I'll post the results when we get to 149. Till then, over to you.

The D400 is probably what I will end up buying, but the D800H would push me to FF now. I need 6 fps min, really like the option of 8 with the grip. I won't buy a body with a built in grip. I'll decide which way to go within the next year.
