lens

Sorry for being a 'smartass', but it depends on where they are and what they're doing, what picture you want and what style you like!

If, I presume, you want to take portraits, the general advive would be between 50mm and 75mm.

The classic portrait lens focal lengths for 35mm were always 85mm, 105mm and 135mm and with a wide aperture, but anything will do.

Any lens can be used for taking shots of people. You'll need to give more information about the type of shot you want to take.

Your question does make it sound like you know very, very little about photography. I'd suggest you get a book on basic photography techniques. It would be a big help to you, whether you are planning to get a camera or already have one.

You want at least 85mm. Wide aperture is also often useful. Nikon 85mm f/1.8 is a decent choice, and not too expensive. If you're willing to spend more, there are better options too.

what lens good for taking pics of people using on nikon d5100 tell me :)
In studio, you would want at least an 85mm F/2.8 prime lens. Longer is better, if you have enough space in your studio.

On the streets, try a 35mm or maybe a 50mm fast prime. Shorter and faster is better, but plan to spend some time with your computer and get friendly with PS.

Give us more specific information and we can help you better.

Report back and post some pictures.
