Having resisted the Ipad 2 for awhile now, I just ordered the new, 3rd gen, Ipad, WiFi only. The screen looks incredible and its probably got more processing power than my desk top. It'll be used by my wife at home but will, hopefully, become our means of viewing/editing when travelling. I ordered the camera connection kit.

So, I'd be interested in any tips/hints. I note there's an updated iPhoto and an Adobe package, both are inexpensive. Since I use PSE I'll probably get the Adobe package. I'm expecting that I'll be able to secure the best travel images via Wifi to iCloud. And post too, of course :) Stuart

I ,too, have been wondering about using the new I-Pad for photo editing and am curious as to whether it would be feasable to use it as my only internet connection. I don't think I could use my favorite editing programs with it. What does an iinternet connection cost? Can you print from it?

Thanks foto that looks like an interesting link - now book marked. Stuart

Jack, not sure but suspect it may be possible to use a Wifi printer to print. I think HP have been advertising this as a feature. The Ipad also has bluetooth - so that's another potential linkage. Stuart

Very cool Stuart! If the new editing apps are worth their salt, it would seem you could just go with this version of iPad for photos, emails and other routine things. I use iPhoto and dabble in Aperture on a Mac Mini (Aperture was only $79 on the Mac App store when I bought). But iPhoto is really all I need since I don't do much sophisticated pp... Be sure to let us know how the editing works out! Thanks for posting.

I've also pre-ordered the new iPad. My 1st gen seems to be getting slower by the day. I've used Photogene quite a bit and really like it. Lots of editing controls, very intuitive to use and it's 5 bucks. The new iPhoto looks promising tho! Whatever way you end up going - enjoy!

Cleve, hopefully we'll be able to trial out the travel set-up in May and post some pics then. Thankfully, free WiFi is quite common now, so we should be able to hook up. Cheers Stuart

Thanks Dave. The price of the apps is quite amazing. I guess that is why so many iPads have sold. The device price is not too bad and the apps are quite good and cost peanuts. Stuart

Welcome to ipadography, Stuart. I use my ipad all the time, especially with the ZS. The apps I like using are as follows:

1. Snapseed: best all round post processing app. It's really my favorite, so most photos go through that.
2. Photosmith for rating and syncing with Lightroom.

3. Photogene, Filterstorm, Photoforge2 and Laminar are all excellent apps. They are so inexpensive, it's worth buying them and seeing which user interface you like most. They are all high level apps.

4. Retouch: A great retouching app, kind of like the clone stamp and healing tool in photoshop. Does a great job.
Photosync: I use this app to upload my photos to Smugmug.
Eye-Fi: Use this app to upload from my camera to the ipad.

Lighttrac: can determine the lighting of a location at any time of day or time of year.
Simply HDR and Dramatic HD: Fun apps for giving an HDR effect for some images.

I have an ipad 1, and it does seem to be slower and slower, so I am going to upgrade to the ipad 3 as soon as we get back from Spain.

The images I posted today from the ZS15 were all uploaded to the ipad and processed in Snapseed, Photogene or Laminar.

PS: Of course the Eye-Fi app you use with the Eye-Fi card to get the photos uploaded to the ipad. The 8 GB card costs about $70; the 4 GB about $40. Otherwise, you need the apple photo connector kit so you can upload your photos directly to the ipad. The kit costs about $30.

I'm also a big Snapseed fan! :) The range of adjustments is amazing for such an inexpensive app, and you can either use the built-in presets, or adjust as much as you'd like yourself.

Okay Daniel, maybe you have a trick, but I'm not familiar with how to upload images to Dpreview from my iPad. The file management is the only real downside for me, I see to the iPad. Or, are you just talking about uploading from the iPad to Smugmug, and then copy-and-pasting Smugmug image links to Dpreview? TIA.

Thanks Daniel, I'll take a gander at those apps. Sounds like I'm spoilt for choice at very inexpensive prices. I ordered the Camera Connection kit as I alreday have many SDHC cards. Stuart

Thanks Mackey - sounds like Snapspeed is worth a good look. Stuart
