For those who own it, what does it do best? Or, alternatively, what makes its compromises so useful or attractive? In short, why do you like it better than its competitors?

(And leave the Panny LX-5 out of it. I'd buy the Leica for Lightroom.)

A small, pocketable Leica that works pretty well upto ISO 800 (and can be stretched to ISO1600), with a sharp lens that is fast at the wide end and relatively fast at 90mm...The RAW files are also quite good and can handle PP well. I use mine quite often when I cannot/do not want to carry the Canon 5DII.

Love the photos that I get from mine...(and I think it's photos are better than the Panny LX5 that my friend purchased)...

I've gone through 4 Dlux 4's, and one Dlux 5.
(all damaged from travel, falling, soaked in rivers etc)
I recently bought a Cannon S100 for it's size.

So...after just working it out in India and the MidEast, I'd have to say I miss the Dlux's crispier images and it's more brilliant colours.

All maybe due to the lens, but I'm no expert. I just like the images I've gotten from it better than other point and shoots.
Will be eagerly waiting the 6 when it eventually comes out.

Hello Linzybel.

I bought my Leica D-Lux 5.Last year.Previous Digital camera's I owned were: Canon Elph S 40.Nikon P5100,Nikon P6000.(A very good camera)I sold the P 6000,to partially finance my Leica DL5.I owned Hasselblad's Linhoff Rolleiflex and Leica MP4.
The Leica MP4 35 mm Sumicron and 90 mm Tele Elmarit were fabulous lenses.

I love my Leica DL5.for its excellent 24-90mm Sumicron lens, which is very sharp, has excellent colour. The camera is petit.I also bought the handgrip and a wrist strap.

Don't fret about it to long for spending the money on this D-Lux 5.It is a camera capable of sometimes exceeding photographic results better than larger SLR camera 's
Here are 2 photo's attached ,taken with the D-Lux 5.Greetings : John Basso.
