Case or No Case for X100?

Hi,
Trying to determine whether to get a leather half case for my new X100 and am wondering what your thoughts might be? Thanks for your input.
A case will help preserving and protecting your X100 and I find the half case with a wrist strap a very pratical way of carrying it and shooting. If you intend to keep your X100 for long (as I do) I would really recommend it.

And it looks cool too :-) . I once posted a thread with mine:

I have the leather case but never use it. Better for me was the OP/TECH USA 7401084 Soft Pouch and a Gordy's wrist strap.

Luigi makes the best cases.

There's no beating that fresh leather smell when you bring the camera up to your face to frame the shot.
Ditto on the Luigi experience though.

If you've ever bought more than 1 case from him, undoubtedly you'll soon enough understand what that means!

Other than the "experience" the only other comment I would make is the price. But if you're in the habit of keeping cameras for more than a couple of years, then you can amortize the cost over a bigger denominator. Or even better use the number of days and the fact that the case is roughly 50% of your camera cost won't bother you so much. :0)

I went with the standard Fuji case. It's very good providing you don't try to close the case with the Fuji lens shade on. It doesn't fit. So either use it as a half case or remove the lens shade before closing.

As I did when I had the X100 I would go the whole way and buy the full case. It worked realy well for me and gave good protection.

The front with magnetic clip opened really fast and camera was ready to shoot in an instant.
The fufi one also comes with a better strap that's slightly longer.

It's not so good if you want to fit the adaptor and filter as although it shuts, it doesn't shut quite as well.

Sometimes I took it out with the bottom half of the case but when I did I always regreted that and wished I'd brought the top half along.

I have the fuji case and love it! I normally use it only as half case, only when putting it in bag for travel would put the full cover on it. Was bit expensive but I think worth it.

I had the fugi case and found it to be more trouble than it was worth so I sold it. I also carry an X10 so I bought a Billingham Hadley Small and carry both. When I have the camera out to shoot I usually have the hood on it and have an Artisan woven silk strap around my neck. Works for me.

I went with the Fuji case when I bought the camera and find it does a good job. It is a pity there isn't anywhere to store the lens hood though.

I also wish they had opted to attach the bottom half to the camera by using the tripod mount in such a way that you could quickly mount the camera onto a tripod with the case on. Camera manufacturers used to make them this way years ago!

Luigi now makes X100 case with a cover to acomodate the lens hood. Interesting the comment he does about a future X100 with interchangeable lenses ... :-)

Thank you all for your input. I am going to move forward with a case as you all suggested. At this point, I can foresee keeping this camera until the end of my days, but you never know when the camera equipment bug may bite again. My favorite case by far is the Luigi half case but I am going to have to forego eating for a while and save some extra shekels to finance. Thanks again to you all for your thoughts and interest. Go out today and shoot the next Pulitzer prize winner!

Hi, a joke and a real case as reported at time...
At this point, I can foresee keeping this camera until the end of my days, but you never know when the camera equipment bug may bite again.
A couple of years ago the local Bishop made an official visit to an elder home from the Government, when he approach a 100 old woman he said "- next year I'll come here and want to see you again!", for what she answered... "- if it happens your Eminence is still alive"

So what do we know about tomorrow? :-)

yeah, back in may 2011 there were no third party cases.. so I had togo for fuji. But frankly the price doesn't bother me but of course I would go for $16 that $150
you dont need a fancy oem case or designer case

i got this one for 16$ shipped
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FYEUM0/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details

looks GREAT. basically perfect oem copy. works perfect. magnetic closure so the half case stays on, the top just flips off (still attached by bottom). i take a shot... then flip the top back on

1000% happy with it

Unless you were socks and sandals outside, and maybe a kilt, avoid them as they serve no purpose except to broadcast your peculiar style, or lack thereof.

Cheers!

I just bought an x100 last night and I'm looking for a case as well. This seller on ebay has some nice leather half cases for less than Luigi.

I have one of Zhou's cases for another camera and it's pretty nice. I'm thinking I might go Luigi half-case with the deluxe strap this time though.

I carry both the X10 and the X100, each in its leather case; I changed the strap for the X10 so that I can have it either just above or just below the X100 (depends on what coat I'm wearing, as I like to keep them inside in our cold Canadian winters). For this reason as well as the fact that I always have one of them at least when horseback riding, I find the full case absolutely essential to protect them. I wouldn't go back to anything else now.

I have the HorusBennu half case, black with red stitching.

Case looks slick, and at $30 it may be pleather but it's close enough to leather for me. It provides enough coverage to protect the camera, but not so much that it hinders access to any functions. There's even an opening in the bottom for the battery / SD card compartment, so you don't need to remove the case to access the battery & card.
