X10 versus Canon G1x

Gary, in relation to your comments on the X-10's inability to deliver red accurately - I shot this whilst shooting highlights on cars.

I see nothing wrong with the colour rendition.

jade.

you already have your next fujimugs entry! :-)

i agree with gary about the red sometimes. although not so much for red objects, in my experience.

i was twice taking some pics in a bar with red interior, and the white balance was ... i don't know, freaking out. nothing looks natural on those shots. all i can do is turn them b&w.

maybe in daytime no problem. but so far for me, red interior + artificial light = X10 screws up.

pitythe G1X is soooo huge and that it's lens is so sloooow, otherwise it would be the ultimate fixed lens cam (without orbs..), with orbs' honour goes to the X10... I'm being harsh but damn I'm so peeved at the X10! its IQ is stellar, its design is gorgeous etc but this freekin' orb issues is the elephant (as opposed to the fly) in the ointment!

Red tends to oversaturate even in the standard setting and horrifically in the Velvia setting.

Someone else took a picture of a red ship recently and pointed out that the camera had given it a paint job, because the original was nowhere near that red.

In this ooc, the red is blowing out the detail:

In this one, I went into RAW and pulled it back.

Again this is ooc. Standard setting.

Again, I pulled it back to get some detail.

This was too intense for the reality.

The one guy who I have seen control the reds straight out of camera said he did it by dialling the colour down a notch.

Gary, I much prefer the "blown out" red shots. But I admit to really liking vibrant colours.

Knurl, I think I'll have to do I bit better than that one (it has an orb - shush, don't tell anyone!)

One problem about the higher saturation of reds is that other colors are not equally saturated, so reds always stand out.

In this night scene test shot with little other colors it almost seems as if I had post-processed the image to make the red cars stand out of a b/w image. Even in (currently overcast) daylight these cars ain't that "juicy". Albeit I have to admit that the blue lid in the lower left part looks quite saturated, too.

If you look at the blue/purple flower (iris) at lower center the X10 has better detail than the G1X, maybe just a focusing point difference... but the G1X is just too big!!

Hi you need an adapter of course, according to Oly it should focus on the new EM5 faster than it does on the E1 4/3 model(old but still good) so that would be good news,as the m4/3 lens are too slow, have to check if the 50-200 2.8 also focus' that fast--excellent birding lens--so very sharp, and not too big
Have you tried the 14-54/2.8-3.5 Oly 4/3, one of my favorite lens, and if it works on the new EM5 then it will be ideal...
No, I have not tried this lens. Wouldn't it require an adapter and be slow to autofocus? Thanks for the recommendation - it looks excellent.

Throughout most of that image, and at most ISOs the X10 is shamefully bad, in fact the worst camera I compared against the G1 X there.

Imaging-resource.com hasn't tested shutter lag for a Fuji pocket camera since the F200EXR, as far as I can tell. Here is how it compares to the Canon G1x.

F200EXR: wide 0.51 second, tele 0.49 second.

G1X: wide 0.697 second, tele 0.681 second.
