Current x100 production

that Fujifilm has refused to service/repair/replace an X100 with the "sticky blades" problem that is under warrenty ? If so, that would be something to be concerned about. From everything that I have read about the situation, Fujifilm has honored every return and done their best to make the customer happy.

If and when Fujifilm refuses to fix a camera under warrenty then that would be news worthy and something to be concerned about.
....and when the 1 year warranty period has expired....
The fact that there is a problem with leaf shutters is not news. It is a mechanical device that requires close tolerance manufacturing and assembly. Medium format film cameras such as Hasselblad, Mamiya and Bronica have all had problems from time to time, it is pretty much inherent in the basic design. When problems occur they are typically sent in for a CLA (clean, lube adjust) proceedure.

Unlike focal plane shutters a leaf shutter, with time will have a greater chance of needing a good cleaning and lubrication. Its one of the trade offs that you make to have a virtually silient, vibration free camera with a mechanical shutter.

The Q is: Can this lens shutter really be cleaned and lubed today at a resonable cost; or will the whole lens-packet ++ have to be replaced??

Hopefully this will be accepted as a production fault. Then most of us have a reclamation time in the region of 5-6 yrs.

There have been a couple of posters at the X100 site that were given quotes for repair ($600 - $700) because they were 2nd users and didn't have the original receipt. They haven't followed up with posts about how things turned out. One user says his camera has been sold on three times without disclosing the issue (he's the fourth owner), so as far as 2nd user models go it's buyer beware for the moment.

I also recall someone here at DPR posting about the same thing a while back, but I stopped posting here for a while and never saw what came of that. Perhaps if that poster is still around they can follow up.

That would be reasonable price (not in terms of being good price, but what service normally charges)
$200 for the lens assembly and $400 for the work.

It is well known that service is often priced to make you to get a new model instead. I would not pay $700 for a repair...

".....What is also being discussed at that forum is a number of 2nd users who have been sold failing units by unscrupulous sellers..."

Tell me about it. Got sold an X-100 with a fake warranty card. Now Fuji won't fix it. They want $500.

When i was in the repair shop in Hong Kong getting the bad news, another guy came in with a sticky blades problem on his 2-week-old X-100. 2 for 2. I guess that's 100% failure rate. :-(

I was quoted the equiv of US$500 at the Hong Kong facility. They wouldn't repair the SAB problem because the dealer had sold me the camera with a fake warranty card. :-(
