one thing that I always fail to understand is, why there are so many people hate pentax?

what sin did pentax commit to them? I have met many of the haters, and believe it or not, most of them even NEVER try any single pentax camera in their life.

this phenomenon is just stupid..

I personally may be critical to some specific products, but I never hate any brand to that extent..

get them to read manuals first and then to google some more answers and then let them to take the first photos
kind regards
jack

I think it's a bit self fulfilling.

There is definite edge towards photographers rather than snapper amongst Pentaxians this tends to aggravate all.

And Pentaxians who feel their equipment has impacted their photo prowess are naturally vocal :)

Being the 'also ran' its a safe bet for Canon,Nikon and Sony users to operate from a common ground (pick on the small guy syndrome).

On top of that die hard Pentaxians still happily perpetuate old wives tales on Pentax camera's performance issues.

So all told were a sorry lot and get what we deserve :)

Well I bought into Pentax because everyone said it was the Photographer's Camera... and then found out I wasn't a Photographer. Kinda ego deflating, b*stds! :x

Back to taking images for myself.

I don't understand that. If I am mad at a company, I don't buy any of their products. I refuse to support a bad company, that is all. I won't buy Sony, but I don't bash their products. Pentax haters should buy a Nikon and move on.

I'm thankful to still be able to...

... Pentax haters should buy a Nikon and move on.
Probably most of them have already bought a Nikon, Canon, or something else - and then they take to bashing the competition to justify their own purchasing decision and somehow "prove" their own superiority.

Interesting question. I work with two (2) die hard Canon users (both 7Ds) and a Nikon user (D300, D700, D3S). Indirectly, I strongly feel they do not consider me, since I have used Pentax for over 25 years, to be at their level. Maybe too since I am using a 1st D which is now like light years behind what they are using is part of the issue.

Personally, I could give a damn less. Using/owning Canon and Nikon equipment you are just a number, part of the thundering herd. I also find their cameras not user friendly.

With Pentax and particularly this forum as well as others I feel you are more of an individual and there is more camaraderie vs Nikon/Canon where you are lumped into a cast of thousands. And, this is the big plus, you are using a camera that is more user friendly in my opinioin.

Just my opinion but I do feel there is negativity toward Pentax by owners of other camera systems.

I think some of it comes from salespeople in stores not carrying Pentax. If someone asks about Pentax, the usual response is that it isn't any good and they should buy N or C. The lack of Pentax advertising doesn't help either. Most younger people don't have any idea that Pentax is one of oldest brands around and that Pentax invented some of features which make SLR cameras what they are today. Also, probably due to advertising, the impression a lot of people have is that N and C are the "cool" brands and that is what they need to be cool.

1) People hate what they don't understand. These people are too lazy to figure it out. (potential customers)

2) People are like cows and they just follow the crowd or herd. life is easier that way because they don't have to think for themselves (also potential customers)

3) People bash companies because they see others doing it, its called jumping on the band wagon. these people can't think for themselves.

4) People hate successful products they don't own and likely won't switch too because they don't/can't use it. They're envious but they don't want to admit they chose the wrong camera system so they bash it to try to make sure nobody else around them gets to use it (owners of other systems)

5) People don't want to see the underdog become successful if they aren't cheering for the underdog. Nobody wants to cheer for the underdog if the team they bet on wasn't the underdog. (owners of other systems)

6) People quickly lose respect for a company that falls behind the times. The company that is slow to adopt progress may get left behind forever. few people would care to buy a camera that is a generation or 2 behind the times. Early into the Digital SLR era Pentax had some features that were lagging behind the competition. (any customer)

7) People like to kick things when they're down. This probably comes from a survival of the fittest instinct where you remove the weakest link permanently. So when a company is down bash them so they can't get back up again. however there is another explanation in #8

8) People are bullies! They see something smaller than their ego that they can pick on and they bash it because they think by doing so they look macho. There is nothing macho about killing ants.

I'm sure there are more reasons.

Maybe it's a hate/love relationship.

I think what CFynn said hits pretty close.

Those who are insecure tend to attack what they perceive as potentially threatening. In this case, we're not talking about Pentax being threatening to N&C in terms of sales, but to the individual who has invested in one of those two systems and is afraid to have to debate the merits (technical or otherwise) of his/her choice to a Pentaxian who has "dared to be different", probably for very well thought-out reasons. While I'm no psychologist, I think that those who attack and hate tend to be ignorant, afraid and insecure.
Probably most of them have already bought a Nikon, Canon, or something else - and then they take to bashing the competition to justify their own purchasing decision and somehow "prove" their own superiority.

one thing that I always fail to understand is, why there are so many people hate pentax?
The question you ask implies the answer. Why don't you ask instead - "Why there are so many people hate Pentax, and so little hate Leica"?

Two options:
1. Pentax users are retarded traitors, Leica users are intelligent and loyal

2. Pentax is unable to satisfy its users (for whatever reasons), while Leica is doing it for years

It is up to you, to choose the one that pleases you the most.

Why there are so many fanboys so overconfident in their reading skills, that they automatically assume that other people can't read, use google or just too stupid to understand the written?

Because the perception of hatred strengthens the group-think. A Canikon user could wander into this forum and ask much the same question, as he finds out that all non-Pentax users are mouth breathing simpletons that shoot with plastic cameras and lenses made in a poorly run North Korean factory. That's hyperbole BTW, before someone gins up some righteous Pentax branded indignation.

If you're happy with your camera choice, why does anyone else's real or imagined hatred factor in? Cameras are tools, imperfect, one size does not fit all, means to an end; only results matter.

what sin did pentax commit to them?
me:

1) they did not automate AF correction using CDAF functionality of recent cameras to record proper adjustment that PDAF needs

2) they do not provide AF adjusments for various focal distances for zooms (like Olympus did years ago) and for various target distances (near focus vs far focus or portartait distance vs infinity)

3) they do not provide AF adjustments for different AF points

4) they do not provide AF adjustments based on light level/spectrum that are user selectable

no matter that I always did all tests w/ my lenses to have a record what I need in various conditions for each of them and always replaced stock screens w/ split prism screens I got tired and switched to m43... sensor (I use GH2) is worse than even 12mp Sony (Kx/Kr), but at least I do not need to worry about AFS for my applications (mostly close to still or slow enough moving targets - no BIF/no sports) no matter the light level or spectrum and where I want to focus in the frame.

and

5) SR... man, HOW HAPPY AM I NOT TO HAVE NEITHER in body SR NOR in lens OIS (not using Panasonic m43 zooms) NOW !!! SR or OIS even switched off (and more so for Pentax implementation) is an abomination that may allow you to turn a very fuzzy shot into a slightly fuzzy one, but it robs you of really pixel sharp ones.

No difference. There are ignorant people that own every brand. You have ignorant people in other brands that "look down on" pentax for being a little player in the market. But you also have ignorant Pentax people that perpetuate similar myths about Canon and Nikon. Just look how many people here use the canikon derogatory term. Or how many comments that infer people choose canon or nikon or sony just because they're lemmings.

In the end, here at DPR, there are a lot of insecure people that have an unhealthy attachment to camera brand. The people who bemoan every review at DPR - that if the latest camera in their brand isn't labeled the best thing since sliced bread, the DPR staff MUST be biased against their brand.

These people are obsessed with the notion that their brand must be THE BEST at everything. Sadly unwilling to accept that each brand has it's pros and cons.

These people exist in all camps - Olympus, Sony, Canon, Nikon, Pentax.

Some of the people do it out of snobbery (The canon guy with the big white lens looking down on a sports shooter with a smaller black lens or the Pentax shooter looking down on the nikon "lemmings" for not being knowledgeable enough about photography to recognize the Pentax is superior). Some do it because they are secretly worried they made the "wrong choice" about buying their brand. So they put down other brands to reinforce to themselves they made the right choice.

In the end, if you don't need gear advice, don't worry about all these people. If you DO need gear advice: ignore trolls and fanboys alike. Get gear advice from experienced photogs that shoot what YOU shoot and demonstrate a skill level you want to emulate. If you're already invested in Pentax you are much more likely to get good gear advice for macro shooting from a Sony shooter that does macro well then you will from a Pentax shooter that doesn't.

I've not met anyone who "hates Pentax" most folks are not that interested or indifferent towards their offerings. That isn't hate though.

I actually think both extremes are worrying to actively hate something isn't healthy, but then being a zealous die hard who refuses to believe anything other than greatness is also a bit iffy too.

If we're asking why are the top 2 makers the top 2 I think it's a factor of many areas including a more aggressive presence in the market even going back to 35mm days. Some people are sheep for only considering one or 2 brands. But some have some very good reasons for that too.

I couldn't give a damn what makers name is stamped on a camera it either suits you or it does not.
