which 24mm 2.8 Fd or Zuiko?

A couple of days ago, I bought a Zuiko OM 28mm f2.8 from a well known auction site.
It comes with lens hood, original box and pouch, all for 45 quid.
I'm hoping Mr. Posty is going to have it for me in his sack today. :)

I can't wait to try it out.

If possible could you post results and photos. I'm interested in difference between 35/2 ssc vs 35/2 fdn and 28/2 fdn.
Also what is your opinion about 28/2 fd or fdn?
Interesting thanks. My SSC Thorium is performing very well though--maybe you got a bad copy? I'm in the middle of doing a 35mm shootout (center and corner tests at about 15 feet) with the SSC f2 Thorium, FDn 35mm f2, FDn 35mm f2.8 and my Zeiss ZM 35mm f2.8 C Biogon.

The OM 28mm f2.8...I have read a bad review (somewhere; forgot) but I bet your copy is as good as you say. I might just have to give this lens a try.

I own 3 different Canon 35mms: FD f2 Thorium SSC, FDn f2 and FDn f2.8. I still cannot make up my mind which is "best" as they all serve a purpose to me. It's all about trade offs--the Thorium SSC is bigger and heavier and presents a yellow cast (easily fixed in PP) but I like the build, focus feel and being able to rotate the aperture ring with just one finger (I like to focus at f2.8 and stop down twice to shoot). The lightweight 165 gram FDn f2.8 is cheap (great for carrying in dangerous areas where snatching is a concern) and though not quite as sharp in the center as the others, nothing can beat this little gem in the corners @f2.8. The FDn f2 has bushing defect which annoys me, but still I hang on because overall it's the best optically (sharpness + color) imo.

My advice is to buy the FDn 35mm f2.8 because it's so cheap and great. Then decide between the other 2 later.

Regarding the Canon 28mms...I recently paid big money for a mint FD SSC f2 but sadly it had a mechanical problem (front barrel play) in addition to not testing well against my FDn 28mm f2.8. So I returned the lens for refund. Did the mechanical problem cause the poor(er) performance? Honestly I don't think so (just rotational play) but I'm no expert on this matter. I've also owned 3 copies of the FDn 28mm f2 and all had a mixture of mechanical and optical problems. I think this lens has cemented element design and the glue dries out over time causing little white dots inside. In addition, the FDn 28mm f2 suffers from the annoying bushing defect and all 3 of my copies were inferior optically to my FDn f2.8.

So I'm throwing in the towel here...gosh knows I've tried to find a better 28mm than my el-cheap-o FDn 28mm f2.8. I defeated.

If you want samples, simply search for alupang on this forum--I have many samples with these lenses here.

FD or MD Vivitar Series 1 24mm f2 or f2.8 Komine. Serial no. starts with 28xxxx.
Should be around $100, better than the Canon.
Avoid the Kiron version, oil on the blades.

No, I was referring to 24mm lenses here. Don't own one but I did some searches last night, and those were my conclusions for a worthwhile alternative.

I own two Komine-made lenses; a 28-2.8 and a 28-90 2.8 Varifocal and both are very, very good.
