I made it into "Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011'

-so many areas we have them blurred. That’s where the mutual understanding comes in.

B&W sure is a photograph and will be forever no matter what people’s personal views might be. I’d even understand someone (hypothetically) insisting that the colour is a ‘manipulated photograph’ say, that in its pure form is black and white.. looking at how the photography began and went through the history. That includes various methods of colour toning virag(ing)) for example so your photography contains often fairly classic link despite its generally modern conception and aspects. My first years photographs were B&W, viraging was something what "fathers and experts did" - no need to be telling you, the colour drew attention and became my standard soon.

No doubt today’s photography goes through revolutionary changes. But what does not? - Keeping things in sensible perspectives is the more vital I say – but that’s again more in general.

Hi there, Always good to see and view your posts, always interesting and thoughtful!

Did you catch mine on the Australian Open, not meant to be taken too seriously!

Take good care.

Ron
Ocean Grove, Australia

currently very hot here.......30 C plus! Up to 40 at times recently, phew, up in Ballarat at the amazing 'Organs of the Goldfields Festival, cooler up here than Melbourne or Ocean Grove!
-art can include everything.

Very cool picture John.
Congratulations !

Gooday Ron, it’s busy days but still checking dpreview.. same as you are about to travel me going the other direction to your place roughly. -Or I think you haven’t travelled to Europe yet I am losing the track these days a bit? .. busy with preparations for two months stay in oz that is now getting close. Pretty insane itinerary has been done (the ideal planning..) and many many other things. . now I struggled two days connecting my satnav to the pc and load the map.. had to disable Vipre antivirus eventually to get it done. These two simply won’t function together – no messages or hints popped out so I couldn’t figure out for the life of me what went wrong.. add the normal life - you get the idea.

But this is going to be well worth it unless I get lost there in which case you just send me a pigeon messenger how many pixels the d400 has gotten to keep me updated :-))) Just direct it somewhere towards Tarkine that will do I suppose!

Good to see you around mate..

Hi jkjond, for me photography is more an instant of reality where art is an expression of imagination. Your photo is excellent but I would had not put it in that magazine.

Quite a fitting definition. I think books like this need expressive images - I certainly wouldn't have bought it otherwise!

I was surprised that they chose this image out of the ones that I sent, but I'm glad it was included. The positive that anyone can take from an inclusion like this, is that there is photography (or art!) everywhere, providing you look for it. You don't need to be in a picturesque location, have snow on the ground or subtle nuances of light and colour.

If it wasn't for images like this (there are plenty of expressive images in there) the book would become a picture postcard album of the country and full of cliched locations in cliched condition - which would still be nice, but too passive for my taste. As is, the book successfully conveys a wide range of imagery from 'pure' photography to the more artistic.
